Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Master Planner.
Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. We provide cradle-to-grave services for primary and secondary composite structures. This position is located in our HQ San Diego, CA office and reports to the COO.
Position SummaryThe Master Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing the Master Production Schedule to ensure on-time delivery, optimized capacity utilization, and alignment between Program Management, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain. This role translates demand forecasts and customer orders into a feasible production plan that balances materials, labor, equipment capacity, and strategy.
Beyond traditional Master Production Schedule ownership, this position will design and implement an advanced planning capability outside the ERP system to enable multi-scenario modeling, constraint-based capacity planning, and program-level visibility not achievable through standard MRP logic.
The ideal candidate is analytical, systems-oriented, and highly collaborative, with deep experience in production planning within a manufacturing environment.
Essential Functions- Develop and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) based on demand forecasts, firm orders, and inventory targets, driven by Program Managers and Business Segment Leaders.
- Establish policies that promote company culture and vision
- Lead employees to encourage maximum performance and dedication
- Translate Sales Forecasting into executable production schedules and improve accuracy of future-month Sales Forecasting
- Level-load production to optimize capacity, labor, and equipment utilization.
- Monitor and adjust schedules based on constraints, disruptions, or priority changes.
- Analyze capacity requirements (labor, machines, tooling, facilities).
- Identify bottlenecks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
- Model various demand and capacity scenarios to support decision-making.
- Serve as the central link between Program Management, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain. Communicate schedule changes, risks, and recovery plans clearly and proactively.
- Drive improvements in planning processes, visual management, and reporting tools.
- Netsuite ERP will remain transactional. This role will design and implement a strategic planning layer to provide capabilities such as:
- Multi-program integrated capacity modeling
- Visual load leveling by work center
- Define system requirements for an enterprise planning tool (could be Power BI-driven model, custom .NET/Blazor application, APS platform, or hybrid architecture).
- Establish a digital “control tower” view of enterprise production flow.
- Continuously enhance planning intelligence and automation.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Aerospace Engineering, Operations, or related field.
- 5–10+ years of production planning experience in aerospace, composites, or complex engineered manufacturing.
- Demonstrated experience building or significantly enhancing planning systems or tools.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-mix / low-volume manufacturing environments
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to support strategic decision-making with data
- Working knowledge of IT/Business infrastructure and MS Office
- Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities

The pay range for this position falls within $110,000-$135,000 annually. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
