We are looking to add new talent to our growing team. We are currently seeking a Staff Geologist 2 to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is a full-time position located in our San Diego, CA office.
Responsibilities- Support investigation and remediation activities at legacy contaminated sites undergoing active assessment, cleanup, or long‑term monitoring. Independently execute field programs with a strong emphasis on quality data collection, environmental compliance, and safe work practices.
- Conduct soil, soil vapor, and groundwater sampling; oversee or perform well installations; and support drilling operations using methods such as direct‑push, hollow‑stem auger, sonic, and mud‑rotary.
- Implement soil management plans, perform dust and air‑monitoring activities during intrusive work, and document field conditions in accordance with project and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure independent implementation of field work and data collection, accurate recording of sampling results, site observations, and field decisions; prepare summaries for inclusion in technical reports.
- Collaborate with project managers, senior technical staff, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.
- Follow health and safety protocols, including OSHA HAZWOPER guidelines; participate in health and safety and daily tailgate meetings; communicate progress and field conditions to the project team; coordinate with subcontractors onsite; and maintain compliance with client and regulatory requirements throughout all phases of work.
- Execute site characterization and investigation programs at petroleum legacy hazardous waste sites and industrial facilities; ensure strict adherence to OSHA and petroleum industry safety standards.
- Draft technical sections of project communications and reports.
- Assist with the development of technical scopes of work and cost estimating for proposal efforts on small- to medium-sized tasks or project opportunities.
- Perform all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols; demonstrate the company’s foundational safety behaviors.
Minimum Skills and Requirements
:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology.
- Proficient technical writing, verbal communication, reasoning, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently or with minimal direction under the guidance of senior staff.
- Desire to learn and grow in your profession; positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, or equivalent data systems (familiarity sufficient for routine field and reporting tasks; proficiency not required).
- Familiar with environmental analytical testing and data reduction techniques for soil, water, and air.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse uneven terrain, work outside in various weather conditions, and sustain moderate physical activity during field hours.
- Ability to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required.
- 2 to 3 years of related environmental consulting experience, including: drilling and multi‑media sampling, working on soil and/or groundwater remediation sites with hands‑on field activities, and Phase I/II site assessment experience.
