Wastewater Treatment Process Engineer

What You Will Do

The GFT Water team is looking for a Wastewater Treatment Process Engineer. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring regular attendance at one of our many offices.

• Lead and support the design and evaluation of wastewater treatment processes, including biological nutrient removal, sludge handling, and filtration.
• Conduct site visits and investigations; analyze influent characteristics, facility design, and operating data to assess performance and recommend improvements.
• Plan and execute bench, pilot, and full-scale studies; assess results and prepare reports.
• Act as technical specialist on conventional and advanced treatment, covering physical/chemical primary treatment, activated sludge, BNR, fixed-film, M , tertiary filtration, wet‑weather treatment, and disinfection.

• BS in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering (MS preferred).
• Professional Engineer licensed (PE) or ability to obtain in 6–12 months.
• 4+ years of experience in wastewater treatment discipline, with planning and/or process evaluation.
• Expertise in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Preferred: 3+ years leading process design for wastewater projects with full responsibility for budget, schedule, contracts, client service, and quality.
• Experience with preliminary treatment, primary treatment, BNR, disinfection, hydraulics, solids processing, and handling.
• Track record of leading plant facilities projects and willingness to take on new challenges.

• Experience with Bio Win, GPS‑X, Sumo, or similar biological modeling software.
• Experience working directly with environmental regulators (e.g., NJDEP, PADEP, MDE, NYDOH).

Salary range: $80,000 – $180,000, dependent on experience and location.
