DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the definition and interpretation of system requirements, operational scenarios, and success criteria for complex automation and biotechnology systems.

  • Contribute to and influence system architecture and design concepts, applying engineering first principles to develop functional, elegant, and scalable solutions.

  • Drive system integration activities across hardware, software, and controls, ensuring reliable interoperability and performance.

  • Develop and execute verification and validation strategies, including functional testing, to confirm compliance with requirements, quality standards, and regulatory expectations.

  • Create and apply analytical models to evaluate design alternatives, assess risk, and select robust technical solutions.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex system failures, performing root cause analysis in environments where system uptime and reliability are critical.

  • Produce and maintain system documentation, specifications, and technical reports to support development, testing, and lifecycle management.

  • Ensure adherence to internal quality systems, industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements throughout system development and deployment.

  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners (engineering, scientific, quality, and operations teams) to support successful project execution and system delivery.

  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to peers and project teams as a subject matter contributor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Biomedical, or Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in systems engineering, automation, hardware development, or biotechnology‑related environments.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Systems Engineering Knowledge:
    Understanding of systems engineering principles, system architecture, and interest in emerging technologies, particularly within biotechnology and custom automation environments.

  • Analytical Problem Solving:
    Strong engineering intuition with the ability to analyze complex issues, develop models, and implement rigorous, logical solutions.

  • Communication &

    Collaboration:

    Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

  • Process Orientation:
    Strong attention to detail with a commitment to process discipline, documentation, and continuous improvement.

  • Regulatory Awareness:
    Knowledge of GxP principles and familiarity with FDA regulations (21 CFR Parts 11, 210, 211, 820) is desirable.

  • Hardware & Automation Technologies:
    Experience with hardware systems such as robotics, motion platforms, controls, and machine vision.

  • Mechanical Systems:
    Familiarity with statics, dynamics, motion control, and mechanism design.

  • Electronic Systems:
    Skilled in integration of electronic components, electric motor control, custom/off-the-shelf hardware selection, and system safety.

  • Software Integration:
    Proficiency in at least one high‑level programming language and experience in integration and testing within automated systems.

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $156k-$170k annually. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Aspen Neuroscience is multi‑state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
