Rock West Composites has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Analysis Engineer.
Rock West Composites is a high‑performance and fast‑growing engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for a broad range of customers from aerospace to commercial business sectors. This position is located at our San Diego, CA location and reports to the Director of Design Engineering.
Position SummaryThe Structural Analysis Engineer will create concept designs, model using FEA software, and document results in engineering analysis reports for deliverable products and tooling in collaboration with program management, customers, other engineering team members, manufacturing engineers and production personnel. Analysis work is primarily conducted in Hypermesh/Hyperworks.
Essential Functions- Perform hand calculation feasibility studies to identify baseline structural approach.
- Utilize classical lamination theory to develop lamina and laminate composite properties.
- Perform computer‑aided analysis of baseline design, evaluate results, and iterate refinements.
- Perform computer‑aided design of components and subsystems primarily using Solid Works to meet program specifications for performance, cost, schedule.
- Design composite molds and tooling, trim tooling, assembly jigs, and quality inspection fixtures to support production activities.
- Work with teams of design and manufacturing engineers on integrated projects to establish clear lines of communication and support project schedule, supply chain, and incorporate in‑process design changes.
- Participate in customer product design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR etc) and interact with project management regarding design refinements.
Education and Experience
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Structural Engineering and 5 years industry experience or M.S. 3 years’ experience.
- Knowledge of composite materials, manufacturing processes and integrated design of advanced structures that are lightweight, dimensionally stable, designed for manufacturability, and high precision.
- Proficiency in Hypermesh, Patran, ANSYS, or other FEM software.
- Working knowledge of Solid Works or similar CAD software.
- Working knowledge of drawing standards including GD&T practices.
- Minimum of 5 years’ analysis experience. Exposure to composite analysis is desirable.
- Knowledge of MS Office suite:
Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams. - Required:
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. - Desired:
Experience using CFD analysis software for subsonic fluid flow analysis. - Desired:
Ability to obtain security clearance.
This position requires the use of information subject to compliance with International Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Some positions require current U.S. citizenship. Applicants cannot be hired until they are qualified to have such access.

The compensation range for this position falls within $120,000 and $150,000. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
