Engineering Technician
Job Description
This Engineering Technician role focuses on supporting product development and rapid prototyping through machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, and fixture design. You will collaborate closely with the Product Development Engineering and R&D teams to fabricate, assemble, and refine mechanical, electronic, and electro-mechanical components and fixtures in a fast-paced, team-based manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
+ Support prototyping activities in a team-based manufacturing environment for the Product Development Engineering Department.
+ Perform functions associated with prototypes, including setup, fabrication, and testing of mechanical, electronic, and electro-mechanical parts, devices, fixtures, and equipment.
+ Work with engineers to set up various fixtures for machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, and other rapid prototyping processes.
+ Operate and perform basic programming or setup on CNC and conventional machining equipment for prototype fabrication.
+ Use 3D printers, laser cutters, and other rapid prototype machines to produce components and assemblies.
+ Read and interpret mechanical prints, schematics, and technical drawings to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly.
+ Apply basic mechanical fixture and electro-mechanical design skills to support prototype builds and engineering requests.
+ Use Solid Works and other 3D CAD tools to design, modify, and manipulate solid models for fabrication.
+ Provide timely feedback to engineers on prototype builds, including manufacturability, fit, function, and potential improvements.
+ Collaborate closely with the entire R&D team, including senior engineering technicians, to prioritize and complete prototyping tasks.
+ Follow machine shop policies and standard operating procedures to ensure safe and efficient operations.
+ Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to verify part dimensions and quality.
+ Assist with maintaining tools, equipment, and material inventory to support ongoing prototyping activities.
+ Seek out new assignments and assume additional duties as needed to support project and departmental goals.
Essential Skills
+
Experience with C milling and CNC machining for prototype fabrication.
+ Basic mechanical fixture and electro-mechanical design skills.
+ Familiarity with machine shop policies and safe operating practices.
+ Basic understanding and ability to read mechanical prints and schematics.
+ Familiarity with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
+ Experience using 3D printers, laser cutters, and other rapid prototype machines.
+
Experience with fabrication and assembly of mechanical, electronic, or electro-mechanical parts, devices, fixtures, or equipment.
+ Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
+ Ability to collaborate with engineers and R&D team members on prototyping requests.
+ Ability to lift at least 30 lbs.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Associate degree in a related field (preferred).
+ Knowledge of 3D CAD software programs, preferably Solid Works and/or Fusion 360.
+ Experience using Solid Works to design and manipulate solid models for fabrication.
+ Familiarity with optical measurement equipment such as Keyence.
+ Experience maintaining tools and managing material inventory.
+ Industry certification or trade school training in a related field.
+ Willingness to seek out new assignments and assume additional duties when necessary.
Work Environment
This role is based in a machine shop and prototyping environment that supports the Product Development Engineering and R&D teams. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work with CNC and conventional machining equipment, 3D printers, laser cutters, and a variety of rapid prototyping tools. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with frequent collaboration across a small core team and broader R&D group.
Work involves handling mechanical and electromechanical components, using precision measurement tools, and occasionally lifting items of at least 30 lbs while following established shop policies and…
