Job DescriptionThe Aircraft Mechanic III is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and safety of aircraft, ensuring they are released as safe for flight. This position involves managing all shop tasks, assigning workloads, and maintaining proper manning in work centers. The mechanic will perform a wide range of maintenance, from structural and engine repairs to inspecting systems such as hydraulic, flight controls, and auxiliary power units.
The role also includes working with foreign cultures and participating in team leadership for maintenance operations.
- Aircraft Repairs & Maintenance:
- Perform repairs on aircraft structures and functional components, including rigging, surface controls, and hydraulic units.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and machines to repair and rebuild parts such as blades, fuselage, and gearboxes.
- Inspect turbine engines for cracks, corrosion, wear, and other damage, and test engine operations using specialized equipment.
- Remove, repair, and reassemble engine components.
- Aircraft Inspections:
- Perform 175‑hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other inspections.
- Inspect engines, structural components, and other aircraft systems for wear, corrosion, or other defects.
- Service aircraft, including gearbox flushing, cleaning filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Accurately document maintenance activities in NALCOMIS/OOMA and ensure all inspections are recorded properly.
- Follow local work site instructions and Navy regulations for maintenance and safety.
- Leadership & Team Coordination:
- Supervise and assign tasks to team members, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
- Manage shop operations and ensure proper manpower is allocated to various maintenance tasks.
- Hazmat Handling & Safety:
- Handle hazardous materials (Hazmat) in accordance with safety protocols.
- Participate in the FOD program, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Comply with all safety requirements and guidelines for aircraft maintenance.
- Experience:
- 10 years of recent O‑level H‑60S/R/F/H Aircraft Maintenance or equivalent rotary aircraft experience.
- 5 years of H‑60 Safe for Flight (release aircraft safe to fly) and CDQAR/QAR experience, with at least 2 years in management capacity.
- Skills &
Qualifications:- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical data and special operating instructions.
- Proficiency in using computer programs such as NALCOMIS/OOMA, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Good leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary qualifications and certifications.
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible shifts based on flight schedules.
- Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
- Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with assigned tasks.
- Must be able to obtain a US government Common Access Card (CAC) and meet background investigation requirements.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with MH‑60 Safe for Flight (release aircraft safe to fly).
- Experience in U.S. Navy aircraft maintenance operations.
- Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs and performing physical tasks as required.
- Computer usage for documentation using codes and clear written and verbal English language required.
- Constant use of eye sight abilities while reviewing documents, walking around work areas and constant use of English language speech/hearing abilities for communication.
- Constant mental alertness around all work areas, must possess planning/organization skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
- Climbing aircraft using aircraft step and all types of ladders or stands.
- Standing long periods of time with minimal sitting.
- Ability to work under extreme weather conditions.
- Work site has head, hand, hearing, eye, slip and trip hazards; shall use proper PPE and proper safety procedures.
