Role DescriptionThe Thermal Engineer will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing thermal management solutions for data center cooling systems in a full-time, on-site role based in San Diego, CA. Day-to-day activities include performing detailed thermal analyses, modeling and simulation of heat transfer, and developing thermal system concepts for new products and prototypes. The role involves conducting experiments, validating models through lab testing, and collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams to integrate thermal solutions into overall designs.
The Thermal Engineer will document findings, prepare technical reports, support design reviews, and contribute to continuous improvement of cooling performance, reliability, and energy efficiency in deployed systems.
- Strong foundation in Thermal Engineering with expertise in Thermal Analysis and Heat Transfer.
- Proven experience in Thermal Management and Thermal System Design for complex hardware or data center environments.
- Proficiency with thermal modeling and simulation tools (e.g., CFD software, finite element analysis, or equivalent packages).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience designing and testing cooling solutions such as liquid cooling, air cooling, or advanced heat exchanger systems.
- Ability to design experiments, interpret test data, and correlate results with analytical or numerical models.
- Effective communication skills for presenting technical findings and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Hands‑on problem‑solving mindset and ability to work on‑site in a fast‑paced startup environment.
- Familiarity with data center infrastructure, high‑power electronics, or server hardware is a plus.
