Position: Senior HVAC Estimator for Design-Build & Retrofits

Summary:

A commercial mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to support HVAC retrofit, piping, and sheet metal projects. This role is responsible for leading the estimating process from initial job walk through final proposal submission. The ideal candidate has deep mechanical knowledge, strong communication skills, and experience supporting preconstruction and design-build efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the sales and preconstruction teams with technical expertise during early project stages

  • Conduct job walks, develop scope, and support design-build project planning

  • Prepare detailed estimates including material takeoffs, labor hours, and preliminary schedules

  • Write proposals, budgets, and scopes of work for HVAC retrofits and mechanical construction projects

  • Review drawings, specifications, and sketches to ensure accuracy and completeness

  • Coordinate with account managers, end users, engineering teams, and vendors to collect project information

  • Prepare proposal packages including scope, cost, schedule, clarifications, and exclusions

  • Ensure compliance with mechanical codes and regulatory requirements

  • Support constructability reviews and identify value-engineering opportunities

  • Obtain subcontractor and supplier pricing; assist with pricing change orders

  • Submit professional, accurate, and timely estimate packages

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in HVAC or mechanical estimating

  • Strong understanding of mechanical retrofits in commercial buildings

  • Experience working on hospitals, data centers, K-12, and higher education projects

  • Familiarity with energy-related work (DDC, commissioning, energy analysis)

  • Strong mechanical knowledge including piping, sheet metal, and equipment

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with high attention to detail

  • Self-motivated, organized, and team-focused
