Responsibilities
- Provide material engineering guidance on projects and processes pertaining to materials and metallurgical processes.
- Identify, characterize, test and evaluate a range of materials and substances, including metallic alloys.
- Be knowledgeable of laboratory test equipment and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure contracts, servicing, and calibration schedules; maintain specialized certifications as required.
- Utilize equipment to identify unknown materials, issue reports to customers and maintain a filing system for records.
- Perform sensitization testing of 5000 series Aluminum per ASTM G67 requirements and submit data results semi-annually to maintain lab certification.
- Perform non-destructive testing on 5
XXX series Aluminum using a Degree of Sensitization Probe. - Perform spectro-analysis on metals via X-ray equipment, fluorescence spectrometer and optical emission spectrometer for unknown material identification and verification.
- Perform hardness tests on various metals using Brinell and Rockwell hardness testers.
- Coordinate with ship forces to perform silicon-aluminum bronze testing on union nuts for high-pressure systems (high-pressure air, SCBA, halon, hydraulics, steering, RAST, CPP, and anchor handling), generate reports and maintain filing systems.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Minimum 4 years of full-time experience in a materials laboratory or engineering support role.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- All applicants must be U.S. citizens as required by government contracting.
- Physical requirements:
walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise; ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs; work in office, warehouse, laboratory, pier side and shipboard locations; possible exposure to loud noise requiring hearing protection; may be required to go aloft aboard ships to inspect tanks, voids, spaces and superstructures.
Salary: $32.30 - $32.53 per hour
