Overview
The Calibration Technician operates in a fast-paced laboratory environment requiring strong multitasking ability, technical expertise, and minimal supervision. The role involves performing a wide range of calibrations on electronic and mechanical test equipment while ensuring compliance with applicable specifications, procedures, and accreditation requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform calibration of a wide variety of test and measurement equipment with little to no supervision
- Conduct both manual and automated calibrations using laboratory software systems
- Coordinate and manage daily workload independently, including prioritization of tasks
- Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot out-of-tolerance conditions and measurement errors
- Perform maintenance and minor repair of equipment
- Read and interpret technical data and specification sheets
- Prepare calibration reports and certificates with accurate documentation of results
- Work collaboratively with lab support staff and cross-functional teams
- Support lower-level technicians and assist calibration lead and/or supervisor
Primary Objectives
- Apply basic calibration techniques with high accuracy and minimal error rates
- Build foundational and advanced metrology skills
- Provide a focal point for the coordination of Metrology & Test Equipment (M&TE) calibration
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of electronic test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
- Ability to learn new calibration techniques
- Ability to run multiple calibration stations at once
- Knowledge of uncertainty and measurement science
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read engineering documentation and specs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in teams
Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in Electronics/Engineering or Military electronics experience preferred
- 2–5 years of experience in calibration or electronics testing
- Experience with calibration systems (METCAL, TME, CAL EXEC) preferred
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
At least two years of support experience in three or more of the following calibration areas:
- Power supply calibration (up to 1000 W)
- Frequency counter calibration
- Oscilloscope calibration (up to 33 GHz)
- Signal generator calibration (up to 26.5 GHz)
- Function generator calibration
- Power meter calibration
- Temperature chamber calibration
Preferred Qualifications:
All of the minimum qualification areas is preferred, along with support experience in four or more of the following advanced calibration areas:
- Digital signal generator calibration (LTE and TD-SCDMA)
- Spectrum or signal analyzer calibration (up to 50 GHz)
- Network analyzer calibration (up to 50 GHz)
- Power sensor calibration (up to 50 GHz)
- Communication analyzer calibration
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and frequently bend, stoop, twist, climb, crouch/squat, kneel/crawl, sit and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift ~50 lbs.
- Must be able to reach, above and below shoulder level, flex/extend neck and have good hand and finger dexterity.
