Robotics Programmer (FANUC) – Aerospace & Defence Manufacturing
Our client is a leading global aerospace and defence manufacturer, supplying advanced aerostructures, engine systems and precision-engineered components to some of the world's most recognised aerospace organisations. Due to continued investment in automation and smart manufacturing technologies, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Robotics Programmer to join their Manufacturing Engineering team.
Working within a highly regulated aerospace environment, you will be responsible for developing, commissioning and optimising FANUC robotic systems that support automated manufacturing processes, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, repeatability and operational excellence.
The RoleReporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will support both new and existing automated production systems, delivering robust robotic programming solutions while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.
You will play a key role in automation projects from concept through to production, working alongside Manufacturing Engineers, Controls Engineers, Quality, Production and Maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, modify and optimise FANUC robot programs for automated aerospace manufacturing processes.
- Commission robotic cells, end‑of‑arm tooling and automated production equipment.
- Support the introduction of new products and manufacturing technologies into production.
- Optimise robot paths, cycle times and process capability to maximise efficiency and repeatability.
- Diagnose and resolve robotic, automation and process‑related issues to minimise downtime.
- Support robotic integration with PLC‑controlled manufacturing systems and industrial networks.
- Participate in capital investment and automation projects from design through commissioning.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to improve productivity, quality and equipment performance.
- Ensure robotic systems comply with aerospace quality standards, engineering specifications and health & safety requirements.
- Maintain robotic software backups, technical documentation and programming standards.
- Support preventative maintenance strategies and provide technical guidance to maintenance teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
You are an experienced Robotics Programmer who enjoys working in a precision manufacturing environment where quality, innovation and engineering excellence are paramount.
You have a methodical approach to problem‑solving and are passionate about delivering reliable automation solutions that support world‑class manufacturing performance.
- Proven experience programming FANUC industrial robots within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience commissioning robotic automation systems.
- Strong knowledge of robotic process optimisation and cycle time improvement.
- Experience fault‑finding robotic systems within high‑volume or precision manufacturing.
- Understanding of PLC‑controlled automation systems.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP and PROFINET.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Aerospace, defence, automotive or other highly regulated manufacturing experience.
- Experience using FANUC ROBOGUIDE.
- Knowledge of machine vision systems and automated inspection technologies.
- Experience supporting robotic machining, drilling, trimming, fastening, bonding or material handling applications.
- Understanding of Industry 4.0 and digital manufacturing technologies.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement experience.
- HNC/HND or Degree in Robotics, Automation, Mechatronics, Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering.
