We're working with several design/consulting engineering firms in San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles, looking for civil engineers with experience in Land Development, Water Resources and Transportation.
Land DevelopmentWhat you will be doing
- Preparation of engineering analysis, designs, and calculations for private improvement projects.
- Assist in the preparation of construction plans, and cost estimates.
- Assist with construction submittal reviews, requests for information (RFI), and other construction related activities.
- Coordinate with other design team members and public agencies.
- Perform technical analyses and simulations to evaluate the feasibility and performance of engineering solutions.
- Assist survey and construction management team during project construction phase.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and methods.
- Proficient in using AutoCAD, including Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to gather, organize, and analyze engineering data, and produce comprehensive reports.
- Proven capability to efficiently manage a variety of engineering functions, work effectively as part of an engineering team, and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
What you will be doing
- Perform field inspections, condition assessments, flow/ stream gage installation, and field data collection.
- Develop and use hydrologic/hydraulic simulation computer models to analyze rainfall/runoff transformations as well as closed conduit, open channel, pump station, reservoir, and floodplain flows.
- Use GIS software to perform analytical tasks and database updates to support hydrologic and hydraulic studies.
- Develop watershed and facility maps, technical reports, and presentations.
- Prepare hydrologic studies and design hydraulic structures.
- Tabulate and summarize statistical data and assist with the preparation of reports.
- Support the planning and design of public works improvements and/or private land development improvements by assisting with plan preparation, profiles and cross-sections, and performing various other calculations and drawings.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Masters a plus.
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Coursework in Hydraulic and Hydrologic Concepts and Modeling.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office, with proficiency in GIS, Arc Map 10.4 (or latest update), proficiency in AutoCAD program and other software as applicable to the department. Knowledge of programming a plus.
- Able to clearly communicate technical information in both verbal and written forms.
- Able to perform intermediate-level open channel and floodplain hydraulic analyses using one-dimensional (ICM, HEC-RAS, SWMM, et. al) and two-dimensional modeling software (ICM, TUFLOW, DHI, HEC-RAS, et. al).
- Able to perform intermediate-level rainfall/runoff modeling using HEC-HMS or other comparable software to determine flood hydrograph timing and volume.
- Able to assist in analyzing rainfall and stream flow gage data for depth/duration/frequency.
- AutoCAD programs, GIS, Arc Map 10.1 (or latest update) and other software as applicable to the department.
- A fundamental understanding and demonstrated knowledge of general civil engineering practices in floodplain management analysis and design is necessary.

- Gathering and reviewing background data for the design and implementation of projects.
- Performing feasibility-level alternatives analyses and evaluations.
- Preparing condition assessments for existing facilities.
- Authoring technical memoranda and reports.
- Performing hydraulic modeling.
- Developing plans, specifications, and estimates for public infrastructure projects.
- Providing engineering services during construction, including review of contractor submittals, responding to RFI’s, providing design clarifications, etc.
