Position: Sr. Manager, Wireless Systems Engineering, Amazon Leo

Overview

Manage and develop a world‑class team of wireless communication systems engineers at Amazon Leo. The team covers a wide range of expertise, including RF systems, physical layer and DSP, MAC scheduler and Radio Resource Management, 3

GPP protocol stack design and development, machine learning and AI. This team is the focal point for innovation in new technology, design, and development of Amazon Leo’s low‑Earth‑satellite based communication network.

The team also participates in standards organizations such as 3

GPP, O‑RAN, and other relevant technical standards bodies.

Responsibilities
  • Hire and develop top wireless communication systems talent.
  • Manage the systems team responsible for developing new technology, solutions, and algorithms, as well as requirements pertaining to L1, L2, and L3 of wireless communication and PNT networks.
  • Manage development of system‑level and link‑level simulation platforms.
  • Develop end‑to‑end system architecture for wireless NTN networks in FR1 and FR2, and define system‑level requirements.
  • Publish and maintain implementation‑level specifications for hardware and software development.
  • Define test cases for integration and verification of end‑to‑end communication systems.
  • Support development and integration of payload and ground software for LEO communication networks.
  • Define system test cases and test vectors for verification and validation.
  • Manage participation in standards development organizations such as 3

    GPP and O‑RAN.
  • Assess future technologies, trends, and internal innovations to drive next‑generation solutions.
Export Control Requirement

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or asylum seeker.

About the Team

This is a unique opportunity to define a groundbreaking solution with minimal legacy constraints. The team will design and implement technology that is foundational to broadband satellite communications systems, customer experience, and key design criteria such as overall bandwidth, power consumption, and cost. This role offers the chance to develop and manage a world‑class IC development team while contributing to the full solution encompassing satellites, highly efficient communications solutions, and customer solutions.

Basic

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of management experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in wireless technology development.
  • 3+ years of managing a team of wireless communication system engineers.
  • Experience leading a team for systems research and design for 3

    GPP systems such as 4G LTE and 5G .
  • Strong communication skills, including writing documents and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • In‑depth understanding of multiple‑access systems such as OFDMA, TDMA, CDMA, etc.
  • Experience in the development and standardization of 3

    GPP technologies such as 4G LTE and 5G .
  • Deep understanding of wireless modem L1/L2 algorithms.
  • Experience developing QoS solutions in packet‑based wireless systems.
  • Broad knowledge to understand end‑to‑end network system architecture from wireless physical layer up to application endpoints.
  • Experience developing link and system‑level simulators using Matlab, Python, or C++.
  • Ability to work in a small team and drive beyond expectations to deliver results.
  • Ideal candidate has a wireless communication systems or digital signal processing background and a passion for building real‑world carrier‑grade communication systems.
