Geo Engineers is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Construction Design Discipline in San Diego, California. Our discipline delivers engineering solutions for temporary works and design-build projects including excavation support systems, cofferdams, access trestles, working platforms, construction staging, falsework, ground improvement and deep foundations. We work directly with contractors, developers, and design-build partners to produce practical, constructable, and efficient designs on some of the most technically demanding projects in the region and across the country.
This role is well suited for an adaptable engineer who is comfortable working across the spectrum from structural to geotechnical engineering, and who is looking to build a career at the intersection of design and construction. You will contribute to a diverse project portfolio, develop technical depth under the mentorship of experienced engineers, and progressively assume greater project management responsibilities over time, while having meaningful ownership of your work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Contribute to the design of geostructural solutions, including excavation support systems, ground improvement, retaining walls, work staging plans, access trestles, driven piles, micropiles, and other deep foundations.
- Independently complete and manage engineering analyses relevant to structural and geotechnical engineering within your area of focus such as steel design (AISC/LRFD), timber design, deep foundation design, slope stability modeling, and ground improvement design (DSM, rigid inclusions, stone columns, DDC) under the supervision of a project principal or associate.
- Develops project drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit.
- Apply strong problem-solving and spatial reasoning to complex site challenges to ensure constructable, efficient deliverables.
- Partner with project teams and clients to coordinate design and resolve technical issues.
- Prepare and review deliverables such as memos, calculation packages, and reports, and complete in-depth reviews of deliverables prepared by others.
- Support and lead project management tasks including budget planning, field report reviews, project implementation plans, proposal development, contractor submittals, and RFIs. Participate in client meetings.
- Lead or coordinate the observation of field explorations and construction activities, ensuring that work is consistent with project plans, specifications, and safety guidelines.
- Assist in business development and marketing activities to grow our practice.
- Visit the field as needed for project scoping, critical phases of project verification, key project meetings, and conflict resolution.
- Assist with training and mentoring technical and technician staff to foster team development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university;
Master’s degree in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering preferred. - 4years of related professional experience required.
- PE is required.
- Experience with software commonly used in geotechnical and structural design, such as MathCAD, RISA, Tedds, Civil 3D, Plaxis, CLiq, CPeT-IT, SHAFT, APile, or the Geo Studio Suite required. Familiarity with specialized analysis tools such as SNAIL, DeepEX, Slope/W, L-Pile, Group, and MSEW+ is preferred
- Experience with driven pile, drilled shaft or small-diameter pile/anchor testing is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license.

- Able to perform consistent work on a PC.
- Ability to travel for short term and long-term assignments as needed. Travel will typically not exceed 20%.
- Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities and do heavy work including exerting up to 50 pounds of force on occasion.
