Part‑Time Water Sampling Technician

I-2-I Solutions, Inc. (I-2-I) is seeking a Part‑Time Water Sampling Technician to collect critical and utility water samples from designated sampling ports within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). The technician will perform routine water sampling in accordance with established procedures, contract requirements, applicable AAMI standards, and facility safety requirements.

The collected samples will be used to evaluate water quality and support the safe and uninterrupted operation of water systems serving the Sterile Processing Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect critical and utility water samples from designated sample ports according to the required monthly and quarterly testing schedules.
  • Collect samples from point‑of‑use critical water, reverse‑osmosis critical water, and utility water sources.
  • Follow established sampling procedures and applicable ANSI/AAMI ST108 guidelines to ensure accurate and representative sample collection.
  • Perform or coordinate required water quality testing for collected samples in accordance with the contract requirements.
  • Accurately document sample information, including sample location/port, date, time, sample type, testing parameters, and other required information.
  • Properly label, handle, preserve, package, and transport samples for laboratory analysis as required.
  • Maintain sampling equipment in proper working condition and ensure applicable test equipment is appropriately calibrated.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safe working conditions while performing sampling activities within the medical facility.
  • Comply with all applicable facility security, safety, infection‑control, PPE, and access requirements.
  • Report abnormal sampling conditions, failed or out‑of‑range results, sampling issues, or other water‑quality concerns to the designated I-2-I supervisor.
  • Assist with re‑testing when required due to failed or out‑of‑range results.
  • Maintain required sampling records, field service documentation, and other project records.
  • Provide timely information and documentation necessary for laboratory reports and contract deliverables.
  • Support unscheduled or emergency water sampling following water interruptions, system repairs, disinfection, or other distribution‑system events, when requested and authorized.
  • Be available for potential on‑site re‑testing within the required response timeframe when results fall outside applicable AAMI standards.
Required Water Testing

Water testing will be performed according to the fixed schedule established under the contract and applicable AAMI testing frequency guidelines. The scope requires monthly critical water testing, monthly reverse‑osmosis critical water testing, and quarterly utility water testing.

Monthly Point‑of‑Use Critical Water Testing

Monthly testing includes:

  • pH – Power of Hydrogen
  • Conductivity / Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Total Alkalinity
  • Total Hardness
  • Bacteria / Microbial Level
  • Endotoxin
Monthly Reverse‑Osmosis Critical Water Testing

Monthly testing of designated reverse‑osmosis critical water sample ports includes:

  • pH – Power of Hydrogen
  • Conductivity / Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Total Alkalinity
  • Total Hardness
  • Bacteria / Microbial Level
  • Endotoxin
Quarterly Point‑of‑Use Utility Water Testing

Quarterly testing includes:

  • pH – Power of Hydrogen
  • Conductivity / Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Total Hardness
  • Total Alkalinity
  • Bacteria / Microbial Level

Testing is performed from the appropriate water sources in accordance with the most current applicable AAMI ST108 standards.

Unscheduled and Emergency Sampling

The technician may also be required to support unscheduled water sampling following:

  • Water interruptions or service disruptions
  • Repairs to the water distribution system
  • Disinfection activities
  • Restoration of water service
  • Boil‑water situations
  • Other emergency or system‑related events

When requested, samples will be collected from affected sample ports using the applicable routine testing parameters. The contract projects approximately one unscheduled event per quarter (four annually).
