The R&D Mechanical Engineering Team is responsible for the feasibility and development of next-generation products part of that role, we design and develop multidisciplinary test systems and characterize product performance across material, component, subsystem and system level attributes. Where you come in- As a Sr. Staff Mechanical Engineer within the Mechanical Engineering Characterization Team, you will be responsible for development test strategy, metrology tools, execution of performance testing, data analysis and system integration characterization for mechanical engineering.
- You will architect and drive execution of our test metrology portfolio and roadmap.
- You will lead the team in developing world class metrology tools for product characterization of critical performance attributes, mentoring and coaching junior engineering team members to deliver test excellence.
- You will be accountable as a technical test lead for next generation platforms, organizing and driving characterization plans and strategies that align with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles.
- You will manage communication with cross‑functional stakeholders and leadership, reporting out regularly on progress.
- You will facilitate test method transfer to downstream product development partners, the specifics depending on the need (e.g. Operations in‑line measurement, V&V offline validated method, supplier measurement).
- You will lead and own technical problem solving for mechanical systems, using a structured problem solving methodology and root cause analysis.
- You have extensive test development (fixture design, programming, test procedure and protocol development, etc.) and characterization experience in the medical device industry, working in a high-volume market.
- You have full lifecycle medical device product design development experience, from feasibility through V&V, design transfer and commercialization.
- You bring depth of test development knowledge and system integration experience in a multidisciplinary product ecosystem.
- Experience with products requiring characterization and testing of multiphysics devices (e.g. electromechanical devices, wearables, biosensors, etc.).
- Direct experience with testing and analyzing plastic components, including materials and polymer chemistry.
- You have a track record of leading teams to deliver technical excellence, meeting timelines for development, translating technology to design at scale, and executing projects as a technical leader with regular visibility to senior management.
- You thrive in environments where there is ambiguity or uncertainty in product requirements and have a willingness to try and test new ideas, coupled with a track record of success in innovation in a fast‑paced R&D environment.
- You exercise judgement within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
- You have excellent communication (written and verbal), collaboration, personal interaction and liaison skills.

Education and Experience- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 13+ years related experience or a Master’s degree and 8+ years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 5+ years of experience.
