A leading gas turbine company in San Diego is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its engineering and testing team. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and a passion for rotating equipment, vibration analysis, and data-driven problem solving. The Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in conducting comprehensive vibration analysis and diagnostic testing on gas turbine components and systems.

Using advanced semi-automated testing equipment, the engineer will collect, analyze, and interpret data to support product performance, reliability, and customer requirements. This position offers the opportunity to work on highly engineered rotating equipment while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to improve testing methodologies, optimize mechanical designs, and deliver accurate technical recommendations to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed vibration analysis testing on gas turbine components and systems.
  • Utilize advanced semi-automatic testing equipment to collect, process, and analyze performance data.
  • Develop and implement mechanical design solutions to improve testing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Evaluate test results and identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and technical teams to ensure reliable and accurate testing outcomes.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate testing equipment to ensure optimal performance and data accuracy.
  • Manage testing projects independently from planning and execution through final reporting.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to testing procedures, equipment, and engineering processes.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and analytical techniques to solve complex mechanical challenges.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience with vibration analysis.
  • Internship experience working with pumps, engines, rockets, compressors, turbines, or other rotating equipment/OEM environments.
  • General knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to analyze technical data and communicate findings effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, and engines.
  • Hands-on experience supporting original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Exposure to vibration diagnostics, condition monitoring, or reliability engineering.
  • Experience with mechanical testing and data acquisition systems.
  • Familiarity with turbine and power generation equipment.
