We are looking for a talented "Network Automation Engineer" who will provide direct engineering support to the Transport Sustainment Engineering Team, focusing on the sustainment, troubleshooting, modernization, and upgrade of fielded shipboard networks. The engineer will participate in resolving complex shipboard network issues, implementing configuration updates, improving security posture, and supporting lifecycle sustainment of deployed systems.

This is a Hybrid-site billet located in San Diego, CA.

If you are comfortable in intense, fast-paced environments, can think on your feet, and can excel in team-based collaborative efforts, then this may be the right job for you.

You Will
  • Provide engineering sustainment support for fielded shipboard networks, including troubleshooting, maintenance, configuration updates, and optimization.
  • Lead and assist with upgrades to network baselines, ensuring compatibility, compliance, and reliability across multiple deployed configurations.
  • Implement and sustain Cisco ISE/NAC solutions including 802.1X, MAB, AAA, RADIUS, TACACS+, Trust Sec policies, C3PL, licensing, and endpoint profiling.
  • Evaluate, mitigate, and implement STIGs on network appliances and shipboard systems to improve cybersecurity posture.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance automation tooling for network sustainment, including Ansible playbooks, Power Shell scripts, and other automation workflows.
  • Troubleshoot issues across various Cisco platforms such as routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, Any Connect, and Secure Client within CANES and related environments.
  • Support engineering analysis and resolution of baseline-specific issues affecting shipboard network deployments.
  • Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and work within Agile and Dev Ops practices to support iterative improvements to deployed transport systems.
  • Participate in change management processes, ensuring proper documentation, review, and approval workflows for sustainment updates and configuration changes.
  • Contribute to development and maintenance of configuration documentation, sustainment procedures, technical guides, and engineering artifacts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and PMWs to ensure alignment and smooth execution of sustainment and upgrade activities.
You Have
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Possession of and the ability to maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Level Security Clearance
  • Minimum of 3-5 years professional experience in network or systems engineering, preferably with direct support to DoD or Navy programs
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco ISE or NAC technologies, including authentication, authorization, profiling, Trust Sec, and policy enforcement.
  • Strong understanding of network security fundamentals and ability to apply and validate STIGs.
  • Experience developing automation artifacts such as Ansible playbooks, Power Shell scripts, or similar tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot across multiple baselines, configurations, and shipboard network deployments within CANES or similar Navy environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile processes, ECR workflows, Dev Ops concepts, and change management practices.
  • Experience supporting Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, ACL development, and multi-vendor troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced operational sustainment environment.
Education/Certifications
  • Bachelor's level degree in an engineering discipline, or additional 4 years' experience supporting engineering of DoD systems
