DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a Vision Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, testing, integration, and improvement of precision mechanical assemblies for advanced machine vision systems. This permanent, onsite role is responsible for designing camera mounts, optical fixtures, illumination assemblies, protective enclosures, precision alignment mechanisms, and related mechanical components used in automated semiconductor test equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on mechanical engineering experience, practical exposure to optical machine vision systems, knowledge of cameras, optics, lighting, and sensors, and the ability to support design, prototyping, validation, documentation, and manufacturing release.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Participating in all phases of projects, including design, testing, integration, and validation
  • Designing precision mechanical assemblies for industrial machine vision systems
  • Supporting development of next-generation semiconductor test equipment
  • Designing camera mounts, optical fixtures, illumination assemblies, protective enclosures, and precision alignment mechanisms
  • Supporting integration of cameras, optics, sensors, and lighting into automated machinery
  • Performing tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T
  • Designing for manufacturability and design for assembly
  • Prototyping and evaluating new mechanical concepts
  • Conducting root cause investigations for mechanical and system performance issues
  • Collaborating with suppliers to evaluate commercial components
  • Supporting prototype builds, validation testing, and manufacturing release
  • Working with large mechanical systems, optical components, electromechanical systems, and automation equipment
  • Collaborating with mechanical, electromechanical, optical, automation, manufacturing, and engineering teams
  • Troubleshooting mechanical, electromechanical, optical, and automation-related issues
  • Performing other duties as assigned

The selected candidate will also possess:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or comparable degree required
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • 2+ years of practical experience developing and integrating optical machine vision systems required
  • Experience working in an automated machinery environment required
  • Experience with industrial cameras, lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, machine vision lighting, and strobed LED illumination preferred
  • GD&T experience preferred
  • Tolerance analysis experience preferred
  • Design for Manufacturability experience preferred
  • Design for Assembly experience preferred
  • Experience with thermal considerations preferred
  • Experience with sheet metal, machined parts, aluminum extrusions, and tooling preferred
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electromechanical, optical, and automation troubleshooting preferred
  • Comfortable working with large mechanical systems required
  • Familiarity with or interest in industrial cameras and lighting systems for machine vision required
  • Strong analytical skills required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities required
  • Ability to work independently required
  • Ability to provide direction or training to other team members as needed
  • Ability to work onsite in San Diego, CA
  • Ability to work a standard Monday through Friday schedule with flexible start times as needed
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally on occasion as required
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future employer sponsorship
