Location/Division
The Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy (M&SA EM) business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries and ultimately change the world. The M&SA EM business designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.
How will you make an impact?
As a Field Service Engineer II at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll contribute to delivering excellent service for sophisticated analytical and scientific instruments, including Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM), and Focused Ion Beam (FIB). Working with customers across research, industrial, and healthcare settings, you'll install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex equipment while providing exceptional customer service.
Territory:
Work will primarily be in the San Diego, CA area with occasional travel (up to 50% to CA, OR, WA, international, etc.) as needed. The ideal candidate will reside within the assigned territory (San Diego), with a strong preference for candidates based in San Diego, CA within one hour of a major airport.
Combining hardware and software expertise in electron, ion, and light microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets, the worldwide Electron Microscopy employees are dedicated to customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.
Day to day activities include:
Conduct on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate working order
Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits
Provide diagnosis and repair support for customers and other field personnel
Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel
Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel
Complete and submit field service reports
Provide training to customers and users on system maintenance
Provide feedback to product quality teams
Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various Thermo Fisher system documentation
Provide guidance for various reports including identifying and isolating outstanding problems with the system
Act as a subject expert and resource for training

This position is ideal for an experienced service engineer wanting to be involved with a team with varied strengths and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of hands-on technical experience in electronic systems, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and/or calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM,
TEM,
FIB
, or similar systems.A detailed understanding and extensive experience diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems, or similar systems.
