Job Overview:

The Vice President of Overlay Trading, part of the Overlay Portfolio Management Group (OPMG), is responsible for delivering robust and highly scalable trading solutions across LPL’s Centrally Managed Advisory programs. This includes oversight of trading for LPL’s Model Wealth Portfolios (UMA), Manager Select (SMA), Optimum Market Portfolios (mutual fund wrap), and Guided Wealth Portfolios (ETF Wrap). The role leads a team of 16 professional traders supporting more than $250B in assets under management.

As a key leader on the OPMG team within the Wealth Management organization at LPL, the VP partners closely with the overlay operations and service teams, the overlay evolution and design team, third party platform vendors, and additional stakeholders to deliver a best-in-class outsourced trading solution. This leader drives a high‑performance culture focused on exceptional service, operational excellence, continuous innovation, and proactive issue resolution.

Responsibilities
  • Lead major operational improvement initiatives to enhance scale, efficiency, and consistency of trading delivery.
  • Balance superior advisor/client experiences with operational execution and workflow efficiency.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to ensure platform reliability and drive functional enhancements ensuring the maintenance of SLA levels.
  • Develop and retain top talent (including people leaders and individual contributors) while fostering a high‑performance culture utilizing performance management, coaching and effective goal setting to foster a culture of accountability.
  • Proven ability to lead effective teams through utilizing organizational design, workforce planning and forecasting to maintain appropriate talent levels.
  • Strengthen metrics, accountability, and alignment across the team and with broader organizational objectives.
  • Analyze client feedback trends and implement improvements to elevate service and experience.
  • Build strong cross‑functional partnerships to advance change and innovation initiatives across product and technology teams.
  • Champion new ideas, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; CFA or MBA preferred.
  • Series 7, 65/66 required. Series 24 preferred.
  • 10+ years leading large-scale investment advisory trading teams.
  • Deep knowledge of managed accounts, tax management, and future state platforms with familiarity across broker-dealers, RIA custodians, and TAMP providers.
  • Comprehensive understanding of trading regulations and requirements.
  • Expertise with commercial trading platforms such as Invest Cloud, Vestmark, MyVest, and Charles River Development.
Pay Range
