Payroll Specialist Consultant

We are partnering with a large organization seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support high-volume, multi-state payroll operations. This is a hands‑on role ideal for a detail‑oriented professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. The Payroll Specialist Consultant will play a key role in ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing for a large workforce, with a strong emphasis on state tax setup, filings, and regulatory compliance.

• Process biweekly payroll for a large, multi‑state employee population exceeding 1,000 individuals
• Establish and remit state payroll taxes directly with various state agencies when third‑party systems are not utilized
• Review payroll registers for accuracy and investigate discrepancies to ensure timely resolution
• Administer off‑cycle and final payments in accordance with applicable state‑specific regulations
• Assist with quarterly and annual payroll tax reporting requirements
• Interpret wage garnishments, tax levies, and other with holdings to ensure proper deductions
• Maintain payroll system configurations, earnings codes, deduction setups, and processing calendars
• Support compliance with evolving federal and state payroll tax laws

• Minimum of 2+ years of hands‑on payroll processing experience at the specialist level
• Demonstrated experience processing payroll for 1,000+ employees
• Strong multi‑state payroll expertise, including direct state tax registration and filing
• Solid knowledge of federal and state payroll tax regulations
