Senior Accounting Manager
Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ+ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. The Center currently has over 100 staff working at eight facilities across San Diego County.
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accounting Manager to join our Finance team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in accounting principles, financial reporting, possess strong analytical skills, and have supervisory experience. The Senior Accounting Manager plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial information by verifying, consolidating, and reporting transactions, ensuring efficient processes and procedures, and providing supervision and guidance to Accounting Office Team members.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
- Perform full-cycle transactional accounting, including, but not limited to:
Conducting month-end and year-end closings, Accounts receivable/payable, General ledger, Fixed assets accounting, and Revenue recognition and related reconciliations. - Ensure all deposit/receipt activity (whether check, cash, ACH, or other electronic transfers) is recorded accurately and promptly in the financial system. Coordinate recording of information in the financial system with the data recorded in the Donor system with the Database Manager and Development Team.
- Utilize Blackbaud Financial Edge for accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records and documentation.
- Correct discrepancies in financial entries, review accounts payable, and manage bank and credit card account reconciliations.
- Extensive collaboration cross-functionally with other departments to support The Center's mission and strategic goals
- Assist with the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports, when needed.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities; perform variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including timely filing of various reports, certifications, and annual 1099 Form issuance.
- Support external audits, including retirement plan audits, and tax preparation processes.
- Mentor and supervise Accounts Payable Specialist and Accounting Clerk; plans schedule, trains, and reviews work.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls.

Required Qualifications:
- Education/
Experience:
5 years of work experience as a Senior Accountant or similar role; five or more years of experience in the accounting or finance field. - Professional
Skills:
Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and financial reporting standards. Strong understanding of month-end and year-end closing processes. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and analysis. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to track and report on goals. - Personal
Skills:
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Technology
Skills:
Proficiency in Financial Edge or other accounting software required. Highly proficient in MS Office Suite. - Language
Skills:
Fluency in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education/
Experience:
Financial and operations management experience with a not-for-profit organization is preferred. Experience with grant accounting preferred. Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Compensation:
The hiring range for this position is $75,000 - $80,000 and is commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time Regular Exempt position. - Benefits:
