General Function
Responsible for profitable business development and for monitoring the quality of the largest existing portfolio of companies with annual gross sales of at least $50 MM and generally less than $500 MM within a specific geographic area. Capable of developing trusted advisory relationships with Senior Executives (e.g., CEO, CFO, COO) and leading collaboration with One Bank Partners to create and implement a relationship strategy for very large, complex assigned clients and prospects.
Requires strong understanding of credit, commercial products, and financial statement analysis to offer beneficial banking solutions (e.g., loans, treasury management, capital markets) based on client needs. May specialize in a particular industry such as Health Care and is expected to participate in community activities.
Responsible for risk management by openly exchanging ideas, elevating concerns, and following Bank policies. Ensures actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience while operating within the Bank’s risk appetite.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development
- Identify and develop profitable new client relationships by leveraging centers of influence, existing clients, and referral sources.
- Grow long‑term, profitable relationships.
- Collaborate with Fifth Third internal partners to deepen existing relationships and acquire new high‑value prospects.
- Attend community and industry forums, conferences, and meetings to broaden relationship networks and deepen knowledge of trends and competitive landscape.
Portfolio Management
- Work with One Bank partners (Treasury Management, Capital Markets, Wealth Management) to analyze, evaluate, and develop tailored relationship strategies for each client or prospect.
- Plan and conduct relationship strategy review meetings with internal partners and client advisors (e.g., attorneys, accountants).
- Manage customer relationships to maximize banking opportunities while considering risk and customer needs.
Client Experience
- Meet with customers regularly to enhance the trusted advisor relationship and ensure business needs are met.
- Lead and coordinate all client‑facing activities, including credit support, treasury management, and capital markets.
- Use the Bank’s CRM system for activity tracking, call reports, and pipeline management; reinforce its use among partners.
- Apply consultative sales skills, the commercial playbook, and call reporting plans to enhance the client experience.
Credit Excellence
- Analyze financial information to determine questions for credit requests.
- Partner with Portfolio Managers and Credit Officers on credit requests, adhering to established guidelines.
- Monitor customer financial performance and industry trends to maintain acceptable risk and pricing.
No formal supervisory responsibilities; expected to provide guidance to Commercial RM I & II.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Business-related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10 years of Commercial Banking experience; 9 years of relationship account management preferred.
- Formalized commercial credit training or equivalent experience required; underwriting preferred.
- Track record of partnership with investment bankers for strategic and capital market advice.
- Strong business acumen, including detailed financial analysis and accounting principles.
- Knowledge of Commercial, Treasury Management, and alternative financing options.
- Ability to assess client needs and provide comprehensive financial solutions.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills in both large and small group settings.
- Strong verbal and written communication, especially in face‑to‑face negotiations.
- Team‑based sales experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with prospecting and CRM tools preferred.
- Regional/local travel.

Base salary reflects the range for this pay grade across the U.S.; actual salaries vary based on role, skills, experience, education, and location. The role is eligible for an incentive compensation plan based on company, line of business, and individual performance.
