Underwriter, Loan Servicing, Financial Compliance, Risk Manager/Analyst
We’re looking for a Loss Mitigation Underwriter to evaluate financial hardship applications and determine appropriate workout solutions for delinquent mortgage accounts. If you have mortgage servicing or loss mitigation experience, strong underwriting knowledge, and the ability to interpret investor guidelines, this is an excellent opportunity to support borrowers while reducing potential losses.
What You'll Do:
- Review and underwrite loss mitigation applications, including forbearance agreements, repayment plans, partial claims, deferrals, and loan modifications
- Analyze borrower income, expenses, financial statements, and supporting documents to determine repayment ability and appropriate resolutions
- Apply investor waterfalls and guidelines to develop compliant workout recommendations
- Prepare complete loan workout packages within investor, insurer, federal, state, CFPB, and National Servicing Standards
- Work with FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and USDA requirements and investor applications to determine borrower retention eligibility
- Order appraisals, title endorsements, title clearances, subordinations, and other required documentation
- Maintain an accurate loan-level portfolio while meeting regulatory, investor, and internal deadlines
- Update internal tracking systems, upload documentation, follow up on outstanding items, and communicate loan statuses to relevant teams
- Support audit requests, recommend process improvements, and contribute to procedure manuals and job aids
- Stay current on mortgage servicing regulations, investor requirements, and loss mitigation standards.
What You Bring:
- At least two years of mortgage servicing experience
, or a minimum of one year of loss mitigation experience - Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Strong understanding of mortgage underwriting, loss mitigation, loan workout options, and borrower financial analysis
- Working knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and USDA mortgage guidelines and documentation
- Knowledge of CFPB, FCRA, FDCPA, federal debt collection requirements, bankruptcy laws, and related compliance standards preferred
- Experience evaluating income and expenses, calculating workout options, and assessing financial risk
- Familiarity with document retention platforms;
Blitz Doc/ICE experience is preferred - Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, collaborative cloud-based programs, and third-party software applications
- Strong analytical, mathematical, decision-making, organizational, and communication skills
- High attention to detail, accuracy, integrity, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment
- Bilingual capabilities and 10-key proficiency are preferred.
