Your role as the Senior Director of Public Affairs:

You will primarily support the organization’s public affairs initiatives, community outreach, and advocacy efforts. You will assist the Senior Vice President, Public Affairs and Community Impact in executing strategic public affairs plans and priorities, including binational initiatives. You will oversee all public affairs contracts as well as relationships and communications with lobbyists both at the local and state level.

All the responsibilities we will trust you with:
  • Support the Senior Vice President, Public Affairs and Community Impact in developing and executing public affairs initiatives, including binational efforts throughout the San Diego
    - Baja California region.
  • Monitor local and state legislative, regulatory and public policy developments that may impact the organization
  • Lead public affairs projects from planning and implementation through evaluation and reporting
  • Manage public affairs contracts and oversees relationships with local and state government affairs lobbyists
  • Represent the organization at meetings, public forums, and community events as needed
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, business and community stakeholders to advance organizational priorities
  • Ensure public affairs activities are aligned with organizational objectives and are executed with professionalism and discretion
  • Assist in monitoring media coverage related to public policy and government affairs that may impact the organization
  • Support special projects, events, and initiatives that advance the organization’s public affairs and community engagement goals
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most
  • Proficient computer skills including experience with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc., and general knowledge of basic office equipment including copier, laser printer, telephone, and computer
  • Ability to effectively work well with others in a collaborative, respectful manner
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills with capacity to handle high volumes of detailed work, multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines
  • Maintain professional demeanor with a high degree of discretion, integrity, and accountability
  • Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance
You will be required to meet the following
  • Must be eligible upon hire to register and lobby before the City of San Diego, State of California, and other applicable government agencies.
  • Existing relationships with local and regional civic, business and community network
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
  • Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of previous experience in public affairs, government, legislative affairs, or a related field. Experience working in or with government offices, public affairs firms, or advocacy organizations is preferred
