Indochinese Service Officer

Indochinese Service Officer positions assist City of San Diego Police Officers to improve communications with various Indochinese communities, assist in investigations, act as a liaison with community leaders, and train Police Officers to understand cultural differences; take reports of minor crimes, petty thefts, etc., where no suspect information is available; direct traffic at accident scenes, fires or other locations as needed;

assist in transporting large amounts of seized property or evidence; conduct public meetings such as Neighborhood Watch; and perform other duties as assigned.

• Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases
  • 3.5% effective 7/1/27
  • 2% effective 7/1/28
  • 2% effective 1/1/29
• Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
• Indochinese Service Officer employees may be assigned to work rotating shifts.
• Indochinese Service Officer employees may receive a uniform allowance of $800 annually upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
• Indochinese Service Officer employees must be able to speak and translate into English one of the languages specified below under Minimum Requirements to receive additional pay.
• Prior to hire, Indochinese Service Officer employees are required to pass a bilingual test.
• Per the San Diego Police Department, Indochinese Service Officer employees, after being hired, MUST successfully complete a paid course(s) at the academy to retain employment.

• A typing certificate indicating the ability to type at a corrected speed of 30 net words per minute (WPM) on a computer keyboard must be submitted during the Background Investigation Process.

A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.

Successful candidates will be placed on a list which will be used to fill position vacancies during the next six months (180 days).

Employment offers are conditional pending the results of all screening processes applicable to this position, which may include the following: confirmation of citizenship or legal right to work in the United States; completion of a pre-employment medical review and exam (which may include drug and alcohol testing); reference checks; and fingerprinting. Fingerprints will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice for a conviction record report.

Certain positions may require additional screening processes, including a polygraph examination and/or background investigation. All screening processes must be successfully completed before employment begins. A positive test result for alcohol, cannabis/marijuana, illegal drugs, or inadequately explained prescription drugs, or misrepresentation, falsification, or omission of pertinent facts in any step of the screening or selection process, may constitute cause for disqualification or termination of employment.
