This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Department of Ophthalmology / Shiley Eye Institute at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) is an internationally recognized center conducting basic, translational and clinical science research on eye diseases. The Department of Ophthalmology currently receives over $9 million annually from federal funding programs of the National Institutes of Health, National Eye Institute and other sources making it one of the highest ranked departments in the United States based on the amount of federal research funding received.

Under general supervision, uses multiple statistical software packages to look for outliers and anomalies in the data. Writes and debugs code using several statistical software packages such as R and SAS. Designs, maintains and documents procedures, including methods and summary/conclusions. Interfaces between biostatisticians and all the data used for the analyses.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research professional with a full understanding of in-depth statistical analyses and / or research software programming techniques. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Develops, plans and executes a wide range of statistical analyses including multi-variable, mathematical modeling, power and sample size calculations, mixed effect modeling of longitudinal data and non‑parametric statistics related to ophthalmic and vision science research.

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.
  • Thorough knowledge of research function.
  • Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming.
  • Thorough skills in analysis and consultation.
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Skills in project management.
  • Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.
  • Experience managing and working with large-scale multivariate longitudinal data‑bases.
  • Experience preparing and submitting manuscripts for publication.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS or PhD in statistics preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in univariate and multivariate statistical procedures for cross‑sectional and longitudinal study designs including linear and logistic regression, mixed effects modeling, and/or Cox proportional hazards.
  • Demonstrated experience doing complex statistical programming
  • Expertise in using R, STATA, SAS and/or other statistical software as needed.
  • Familiarity with vision and/or eye research.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $88,000 - $161,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $42.15 - $77.39
