Position Information
This recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time bilingual (Spanish/English) vacancy in the Sonoma County Human Services Department. This list may be used to fill future full‑time, part‑time or extra‑help vacancies as they occur during the active status of the list. Bilingual proficiency skills will be tested in an exam.

Bilingual premium pay is $.90 hourly. The ability to speak and comprehend Spanish and English at a proficient level is required for this position.
The PositionUnder close supervision, the Human Services Aide I learns to provide routine, non‑technical assistance and supportive services to clients and staff; acts as liaison between professional staff and disadvantaged individuals and groups in the community; may translate conversations and documents and performs related duties as required. Completion of one year of full‑time experience at a satisfactory level as a Human Services Aide I may provide the opportunity to promote to Human Services Aide II.
The current salary for Human Services Aide II is $16.08 - $19.54 hourly.

Education: Any combination of education, training and experience, which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. The ability to read and write English and make arithmetic calculations for successful job performance.
Experience: Any combination of education, training and experience, which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, recent paid or unpaid experience working with the problems of poverty and understanding various aspects of ethnic and cultural differences would provide such an opportunity.
License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level, including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position.
Special Requirement: Requires ability to speak and write Spanish in addition to English. Bilingual Spanish/English skills are required for this position.
Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesWorking knowledge of: needs, problems, attitudes and behavior patterns of disadvantaged persons and of the total community; the policies and procedures of the Human Services Department.
Knowledge of: cultural and human behavior to effectively deal with clients and professional staff; services offered by the Human Services Department; standards of clients' confidentiality.
Ability to: relate well to disadvantaged members of the community and to representatives of public and private organizations providing services; complete necessary documentation and paperwork; work cooperatively and effectively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds including those with legal and family problems; read and write English and make arithmetic calculations; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
