Associate Scientist

The Fountain Group is currently seeking an Associate Scientist for a prominent client of ours. This position is located in San Diego, CA. Details for the position are as follows:

• Pay: $38-43/hr.
• 6-month assignment with possibility for extension or conversion based on performance and budget.

• Supported molecular assay design and development across multiple diagnostic programs, executing experiments using qPCR and RT-qPCR methodologies.
• Conducted feasibility studies and assisted in selecting optimal technical approaches, including multiplex assay strategies and nucleic acid detection workflows.
• Executed experimental plans and generated high-quality data to support assay optimization, performance evaluation, and development milestones.
• Contributed to analytical validation studies including limit of detection (LoD), precision, reproducibility, and robustness assessments.
• Analyzed molecular assay data, identified trends, and communicated findings to cross-functional teams to inform development decisions.
• Troubleshot assay chemistry, workflows, and instrumentation issues to improve assay reliability and performance.
• Collaborated with bioinformatics, regulatory, quality, and manufacturing teams to support assay design, validation, and transfer activities.
• Supported development of QC strategies, reference material characterization, and analytical controls to ensure assay consistency and quality.
• Contributed to design control documentation, risk assessments (FMEA), and regulatory reports supporting compliance with FDA and ISO requirements.
• Maintained accurate laboratory documentation and data records in accordance with quality systems and regulated laboratory practices.

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience required
• Experience with in molecular assay development is required
• Strong background in molecular biology techniques required
• Experience working within a FDA or ISO 13485 industry preferred
