Bilingual Human Resources Business Partner (Retail)

Spanish and English Speaking HRBP

Location: Central San Diego, Kearny Mesa

Hybrid, 2 days from home, 3 in office

Salary: $90,000 - $95,000 depending on industry

About the Role

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a trusted advisor to retail field leaders (RVPs, DMs, Store Managers) and cross-functional partners, driving a people-first culture that enables operational excellence. This role leads employee relations (ER) with rigor and empathy, supports multi location (including Puerto Rico) compliance, enables workforce planning, and elevates talent and engagement across a geographically distributed footprint. The ideal candidate thrives in retail environments and is comfortable balancing hands‑on, day‑to‑day support.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations (Primary Focus)

  • Serve as the primary ER point of contact for assigned regions across multiple states; coach leaders on fair, consistent application of policies and practices.
  • Conduct timely, thorough, and impartial investigations into workplace concerns (e.g., policy violations, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, performance issues), maintaining strong documentation and confidentiality.
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance on risk assessment, case strategy, and resolution; support settlement and remediation plans as needed.
  • Recommend corrective action aligned to progressive discipline and performance standards; guide leaders through performance improvement plans (PIPs).
  • Analyze ER trends (turnover drivers, hotspots, coaching themes) and recommend preventive strategies and training.

Multi-State Support & Compliance

  • Advise leaders on state and local labor laws (wage and hour, meal/rest, final pay, paid leave, predictive scheduling, minor labor, accommodations), ensuring consistent and compliant practices.
  • Retail does include seasonal workers and minors, must communicate related policies and compliance to managers and ensure being met.
  • Partner with Payroll/Operations on wage/hour integrity (off-the-clock risks, timekeeping, OT, classification), especially during peak seasons and inventory events.
  • Maintain policy addenda and localized business rules; support audits and corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate with Benefits on state‑specific leave (e.g., FMLA, PFL, PFML, STD), ADA/ADAAA interactive processes, and return‑to‑work plans.

Data, Reporting & Insights

  • Monitor KPIs: turnover (voluntary/involuntary), time‑to‑fill, ER case cycle time, absenteeism, safety, engagement, and diversity metrics.
  • Translate data into actionable narratives for field leaders; track outcomes and iterate.
Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years HR experience including previous HRBP experience
  • Bilingual, fluent Spanish and English
  • Retail and multi state experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in employee relations investigations, documentation, and risk mitigation.
  • Solid working knowledge of federal and state employment laws (FLSA, Title VII, ADA/ADAAA, FMLA, NLRA, state wage/hour, leave laws, predictive scheduling).
  • Excellent communication (written/verbal), facilitation, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with HRIS, case management tools, and MS/Office or M365.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field
  • Retail or distribution center HR experience during peak seasons and/or store opening programs.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status. We consider all qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local laws, including the California Fair Chance Act, City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, and Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance.
