Job Description & How to Apply Below

Role:

Senior Infrastructure and Dev Ops Engineer

Location:

San Diego, CA

Salary:

$160,000 - $210,000 / yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits.

Role Overview :

Seasats builds autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) that deliver persistent maritime intelligence for defense, scientific, and commercial customers.

This is an exciting opportunity to help scale the backend systems that support our growing fleet of field‑deployed ASVs. Seasats has autonomous vehicles in customer hands across the globe and is now aggressively scaling our vehicle production and deployment rates. We’re looking for an experienced infrastructure / Dev Ops engineer who’s excited to learn the current system and work to make it ever more resilient and serviceable.

Seasats’ customers depend on our vehicles to complete high value (and at times dangerous) missions. The systems you’ll be managing cut across all of our products and services and as such are critical to the whole organization. Much of your work will be on the backend, but you’ll also contribute to systems that run on the vehicles themselves.

Role Details:

You’ll report directly to our CTO and work closely with the rest of the software and systems teams. This is a hands‑on role with significant ownership: you’ll design systems, deploy them, support them in production, and continuously improve how they’re operated.

On a day‑to‑day basis, you will:

  • Design, deploy, and operate cloud and on‑prem infrastructure supporting Seasats services and vehicles
  • Set up and monitor observability systems (metrics, logs, alerts) across servers, services, and deployed vehicles
  • Support customer deliveries where Seasats software is deployed on customer‑managed or air‑gapped infrastructure
  • Plan and implement system‑level improvements to harden infrastructure, improve reliability, simplify maintenance, and enhance performance
  • Respond to and help resolve urgent operational issues affecting customers or internal developers (ideally infrequent, but critical when they occur)
  • Support CI/CD tooling and release automation
  • Occasionally support internal IT projects
About You:
  • 7+ years of experience in Dev Ops and/or infrastructure engineering
  • Strong proficiency working in Linux environments and operating Linux servers
  • Experience managing databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL, time‑series systems) in production
  • Comfort automating infrastructure and operations using Bash and Python
  • Familiarity with security best practices: secrets management, access controls, certificate management, and hardening
  • Basic understanding of networking: routing, NAT, VPNs, VLANs, firewalls, and secure access patterns
  • Experience with CI/CD, provisioning, and configuration management
  • An appreciation for the occasional hands‑on IT or hardware‑adjacent problem when needed

Additionally, you may have one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Docker and containerized services
  • Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code and configuration management practices, using tools like Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience supporting robotics or hardware engineering teams
About Seasats:

At Seasats, we're passionate about delivering maritime robotics solutions to redefine the maritime industry. Our primary products are autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), designed to carry sensors at sea for months at a time. Our ASVs provide persistent monitoring and data acquisition to defense, scientific, and commercial customers, and have autonomously crossed both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. After thousands of years in which the only way to gather information from the ocean was to put people on a boat, these uncrewed vessels are transforming how humanity monitors and interacts with the ocean.

Here, you’ll find the space and opportunity to do your life’s best work.

Perks:
  • Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer‑covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
  • 401k matching up to 4% of salary
  • Four free lunches per week
  • An employee activity fund
  • A pet‑friendly office
  • Unlimited/Flex PTO
Hiring Notes:

When applying, you’ll be asked to provide a resume and answer a few screening questions.

Please note that we are currently unable to sponsor employment visas, so candidates must be independently authorized to work in the United States.

We appreciate diverse perspectives and life experiences, and we’re committed to building a team that reflects a wide range of backgrounds.
