About The Role:
An Associate Systems Engineer (IT Focus) will support the deployment, integration, and sustainment of Linux‑ and Windows‑based IT infrastructure used to enable virtualized testing of Naval Tactical Systems for the U.S. Department of Defense. The position applies systems engineering principles to ensure secure, reliable, and interoperable test environments across IDT facilities, Navy laboratories, and customer sites.
Clearance & Location Requirements:- Must obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
- On‑site position: 4‑5 days per week in San Diego, CA.
- Deploy, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux‑ and Windows‑based systems for classified virtualized test environments.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, IT staff, and customer stakeholders to translate operational requirements into deployable IT solutions.
- Set up and sustain on‑premises virtual machine infrastructure using VMware and container technologies.
- Support testing, deployment, and sustainment of IDT software and Navy combat systems in virtual environments; assist with land‑based and at‑sea test events.
- Work cross‑functionally across multiple organizations to resolve technical issues.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, design references, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide end‑user training and hands‑on technical support to customers.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance reliability and streamline deployments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience with Windows and Linux OS configuration and administration.
- Experience with virtualization (VMware) and container technologies;
Open Shift preferred. - Strong networking knowledge – TCP/IP, switching, routing, firewalls, subnetting.
- Ability to shift between projects in an agile environment.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, including to customer sites at land or sea.
- Ability to learn within DoD or government environments and comply with security requirements.
- Familiarity with Linux Red Hat (6.0‑9.0).
- Experience with Cisco devices and Dell servers.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes clusters, networking, storage, and workload orchestration.
- Basic scripting skills (Python, Bash, Power Shell).
- Experience with automation tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
- Understanding of core protocols (TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, IP, HTTP).
- Experience with STIGs and system hardening.
- Experience with Naval systems.
$72,000 – $114,450
