Description
The Homeland Security Sector at Leidos has a dynamic opportunity for an experienced Software Test Engineer to join an established, high‑performing team delivering mission‑critical capabilities of international importance in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will contribute to the next evolution of a critical NATO application, including rehosting and verification of an existing system onto new hardware, as well as development and test of a modernized React front‑end user interface with a Java‑based backend.
Development activities follow Agile Scrum methodologies, emphasizing collaboration, quality, and continuous delivery.

Primary Responsibilities- Collaborate with cross‑functional Agile Scrum teams to ensure delivery of high‑quality software solutions.
- Analyze system and capability requirements to ensure implementations are verifiable and testable.
- Support definition and refinement of acceptance criteria within user stories.
- Develop, execute, and maintain test plans, test cases, and test procedures for both existing system capabilities under maintenance and newly developed React front‑end and Java backend services.
- Perform regression testing based on analysis of newly implemented features and system impacts.
- Analyze test results, document findings, create and track defects, and contribute to test reports and metrics.
- Trace test cases to capability requirements to ensure full requirement coverage and validation.
- Support the Independent Test Manager in development and execution of formal test procedures.
- Participate in sprint planning, sprint reviews, and technical discussions.
- Develop domain knowledge of the NATO mission environment to effectively contribute to system validation efforts.
- Potentially support installation and user acceptance testing activities at the customer site in Belgium.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance required to start, with ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field and 4–8 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 2–6 years of relevant experience.
- Experience developing test plans, designing and writing test cases, executing tests, analyzing results, tracking defects, and contributing to test metrics and reports.
- Experience tracing test cases to system and capability requirements.
- Ability to determine appropriate regression test scope based on new feature implementation.
- Experience working across multiple test environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives.
- Ability to quickly learn complex systems and adapt to evolving priorities.
- Experience testing web‑based applications.
- Experience with React front‑end and Java backend technologies.
- Experience with Solaris x86 and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Experience working in virtual machine environments.
- Experience supporting applications for DoD operations.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and Scrum practices.
- Experience using Jira and Confluence.
- Experience with Jira test management plugins such as Xray or Zephyr.
