Position DescriptionAre you a proactive security professional with a passion for offensive security and Red Teaming? Seneca Resources is seeking a Network Security Specialist II to join a mission‑critical team in San Diego. In this role, you will perform penetration testing and Red Team activities to defend a high‑stakes Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) network.
You will be responsible for identifying vulnerabilities, performing proofs of concept (PoC) for new exploits, and ensuring the infrastructure supporting vital government operations remains resilient against evolving threats. This is an ideal role for a specialist who enjoys a mix of systems administration and active vulnerability research.
Core Responsibilities- Offensive Security: Conduct penetration testing against a variety of applications and infrastructure using industry‑standard tools like BURP Suite.
- Exploit Validation: Perform Proof of Concept (PoC) on emerging exploits to determine the vulnerability of supported networks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Vulnerability Management: Ensure the continuous operation of signature‑based scanning tools and manage vulnerability enumeration and remediation efforts.
- Documentation: Draft and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical PoC reports to ensure stakeholders are informed of security postures.
- Systems Support: Utilize a background in Linux and Windows administration to navigate and secure complex virtualized environments (vSphere, KVM, etc.).
- Compliance: Apply DoD STIGs to ensure all systems meet rigorous federal security standards.
- Experience: 4+ years of relevant experience in cybersecurity, system administration, or network administration.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Core Linux elements and virtual machines (vSphere, Virtual Box, KVM, or QEMU). Hands‑on experience with DoD STIGs and vulnerability remediation. Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Power Shell, BASH, or Python).
- Certifications (IAT Level II): Must hold one of the following:
CompTIA Security+ CE, CySA+ CE, or CASP+; GIAC (GSEC, GICSP, or SSCP); EC-Council CND. - Operating Environment Certification: MCSA, Linux+, or equivalent OE certification (relevant professional training may be considered in lieu of certification).
- Experience with Kali Linux tools (nMAP, TCPDump, Wire Shark).
- Knowledge of ACAS suite management, installation, and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of Web Development/HTML and the OSI Model.
- Familiarity with Windows Server core elements (Active Directory, GPO, SCCM).
- Exposure to Cloud security fundamentals and hardware exploitation.
