Position SummarySan Diego State University is seeking a highly skilled Technology Support Specialist III to provide senior-level leadership and technical expertise in audiovisual (AV) technologies, instructional systems, and learning environments across campus. This role leads the design, implementation, integration, support, and lifecycle management of complex AV and instructional technology systems that support teaching, learning, collaboration, and university operations. Working independently under general supervision, the employee coordinates campus-wide AV initiatives, develops scalable and standardized technology solutions aligned with university IT strategy, and partners with academic departments, IT teams, Facilities, vendors, and campus stakeholders to deliver reliable, accessible, and future-ready technology environments.
Key Responsibilities- AV Systems Coordination & Implementation
- Lead planning, coordination, and implementation of classroom modernization, AV refresh, and instructional technology initiatives across campus.
- Develop and maintain campus-wide AV standards, governance practices, and design documentation to ensure consistency, scalability, and supportability.
- Coordinate end-to-end AV deployments, including requirements gathering, solution validation, installation oversight, testing, and operational handoff.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between academic departments, IT, Facilities, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Direct project timelines, resources, communications, and vendor coordination across multiple concurrent initiatives.
- Advanced Technical Support & Systems Integration
- Provide advanced technical leadership and tier 2–3 support for complex instructional, event, and enterprise AV technologies.
- Design, configure, integrate, and support AV systems including control systems, conferencing technologies, signal distribution, and network-connected environments.
- Troubleshoot complex issues involving AV systems, networking, control platforms, and enterprise integrations.
- Support centralized monitoring, management, and optimization of AV and instructional technology systems.
- Provide technical support for instructional spaces, campus events, and high-visibility university initiatives.
- AV Strategy & Lifecycle Planning
- Develop and coordinate AV lifecycle strategies, including inventory management, replacement planning, refresh cycles, and sustainability initiatives.
- Support the transition to network-managed AV environments to improve monitoring, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Research and recommend emerging AV and instructional technologies aligned with institutional goals.
- Maintain technical standards, documentation, operational procedures, and performance metrics to support continuous improvement.
- Service Delivery & Continuous Improvement
- Support classroom and event readiness through proactive maintenance and service improvement efforts.
- Improve workflows, operational procedures, support models, and knowledge-sharing practices.
- Provide lead work direction, mentoring, training, and technical guidance to staff and student assistants.
- Develop training materials and documentation to promote operational consistency and best practices.
- Work at scale – Support and shape AV technology experiences across classrooms, event spaces, and campus-wide environments.
- Deep technical impact – Solve complex challenges involving AV systems, networking, and enterprise integration.
- Collaborative environment – Partner with faculty, IT teams, and campus stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
