Training Specialist - COMMS/DATA LINK/RADAR TECH Trainer

Our work depends on Training Specialist joining our team to provide the finest technical and tactical training at SCSTC Det Southwest, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Train specialists focusing on surface radars, navigation and data link systems for surface combatants.
  • Support Advanced Warfare Training (AWT) Phases, including Self-Assessment Groom Training (SAGT). Develop, organize, and conduct technical and tactical training to meet US Navy training requirements.
  • Provide classroom and hands-on instruction for technicians and tacticians on operation and maintenance of Navigation and Data Link Systems. Develop, test, maintain, and deliver moderately complex training programs and related materials. Establish, set and review course content and objectives. Develop criteria for evaluating training effectiveness, maintain records, track participant progress, and regularly update course documentation.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of navigational systems and provide technical training to technicians onboard Aegis and SSDS MK 2 platforms. Ensure units demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills to initialize, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot onboard navigational systems in accordance with CSOSS procedures and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Advanced Navigation Sensors and Displays (e.g., Moriah Wind System, analog windbird systems) and familiarity with ECDIS-N or Voyage Management System. Knowledge of GPS-based positioning, navigation, and timing (GPNTS) and Digital Hybrid Speed Log (DHYSL) is essential. Proficient with Digital Hybrid Speed Log (DHYSL).
  • Support training with extended periods on your feet.
  • Preferred NECs: ET 9615, ET1520, ET9612, V31B, V23B, V02B, 805A/9502.
  • Must possess Secret security clearance.
  • Travel may be required up to 20 percent of the time. Must be in physical condition to traverse a U.S. Navy Ship while observing drills and support embarkation on a U.S. Navy ship underway.
What you will need to succeed
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work/military experience.
  • Qualifications:

    Five (5) years of experience with the required system or process as either a maintenance technician or operator with responsibility for teaching the applicable system or function tasks to others in an apprentice-level training environment. Of the five years, one (1) year of experience as an instructor or facilitator in a Navy Training Environment, to include curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials and the results of instruction, and counseling students on academic learning problems.
  • Combat System Training: comprehensive knowledge of casualty response, familiarity with CSOSS, Sailor-to-Engineer websites and experience with Combat System Training Team (CSTT) methodologies.
  • Preferred navigational systems and networks expertise include GPS, NAVSSI, DMS and modern networks such as GEDMS. Knowledge of Interior Communication Switchboards (ICSB) and their uses on ships. Proficiency with Navigation Critical Distribution System (NCDS) and its role in distributing navigation-based messaging.
  • Inertial Navigation and Compass Systems include AN/WSN-7 Ring Laser Gyro Navigator (RLGN) Inertial Navigation System (INS) with understanding of inputs/outputs and calibration methods. Proficiency with Digital Flux Gate Magnetic Compass (DFGMC) and its role in determining magnetic heading.
  • Integrated Bridge Systems: experience with Integrated Bridge and Navigation Systems (IBNS) including integration, navigational, control, and communication functions.
  • Ability to support training with extended periods on your feet.
