Associate Systems Engineer

About the Role

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a provider of cloud‑based integration, automated testing and data analysis for defense systems, is seeking an Associate Systems Engineer (IT Focus) for its Integrated Mission Systems team in San Diego, CA.

The role supports deployment, integration, and sustainment of Linux‑ and Windows‑based IT infrastructure for virtualized testing of Naval Tactical Systems. You will apply systems engineering principles to ensure secure, reliable, interoperable test environments at IDT facilities, Navy laboratories, and customer sites.

• All applicants must obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
• On‑site work required; 4–5 days in office at the San Diego, CA location.

• Deploy, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux and Windows systems supporting virtual test environments.
• Work with systems engineers and stakeholders to translate operational and technical requirements into deployable IT solutions.
• Set up and sustain on‑premises virtual machine infrastructure using VMware and container technologies.
• Assist with testing, deploying, and sustaining IDT software and Navy combat systems in virtualized environments; support land‑based and at‑sea test events.
• Collaborate across organizations to support integrated system operations and resolve technical issues.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, design references, and standard operating procedures.
• Provide end‑user training and hands‑on technical support to customers.
• Contribute to technical solutions, workflows, and process improvements that enhance reliability and efficiency.

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
• Willingness to work in DoD environments and comply with security requirements.
• Experience configuring and administering Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Experience with virtualization (VMware) and/or Open Shift.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts: TCP/IP, switching, routing, firewalls, subnetting.
• Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Podman.
• Able to shift between projects in an agile environment.
• Travel to customer sites, land or sea, for deployments and event support.

• Experience with Red Hat Linux 6.0–9.0.
• Familiarity with Cisco devices and Dell servers.
• Experience with Kubernetes clusters, networking, storage, and orchestration.
• Basic scripting skills (Python, Bash, Power Shell).
• Experience with automation tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
• Knowledge of protocols: TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, IP, HTTP.
• Experience with STIG hardening processes.
• Experience with naval systems.

$72,000 – $114,450 per year (California and New Jersey Senate Bill disclosures are required; actual compensation may vary).
