Position: Director, Instructional Technology & Web (Administrator II)

Position Summary

San Diego State University is looking for a strategic and innovative Director of Instructional Technology & Web to lead the university’s instructional technology, web services, accessibility, and instructional design programs. Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President and Deputy CIO, this role provides vision, leadership, and operational oversight for a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering accessible, user-centered digital experiences that support teaching, learning, and engagement across the university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership & Digital Innovation Develop and execute strategic plans, service roadmaps, and governance frameworks for instructional technologies, web services, and accessibility initiatives. Provide strategic direction for the university’s learning management system (LMS), instructional technology platforms, and digital learning ecosystem. Establish standards, policies, and best practices for instructional design, web development, accessibility, and content management. Evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements to inform institutional strategy and service enhancements.
  • Web Services, Accessibility & Digital Experience Lead the strategy and governance of SDSU’s web presence, ensuring a cohesive, accessible, and institutionally aligned digital experience. Oversee web content management systems, digital platforms, and accessibility initiatives across the university. Direct Accessibility Technology Initiative (ATI) compliance efforts and support adherence to ADA, WCAG, CSU, and other regulatory requirements. Advance Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessible instructional materials across all learning environments.
  • Staff Leadership & Operational Oversight Provide leadership, supervision, and professional development for a multidisciplinary team of web developers, instructional designers, accessibility specialists, and technology professionals. Establish performance expectations, assign priorities, and support staff growth and success. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Oversee daily operations to ensure high-quality service delivery and effective resource utilization.
  • Project, Budget & Vendor Management Lead enterprise technology projects, including system implementations, upgrades, platform enhancements, and integrations. Coordinate project planning, stakeholder engagement, resource allocation, testing, and implementation activities. Manage departmental budgets, procurement activities, vendor relationships, contracts, and software licensing agreements. Monitor service metrics and operational performance to support strategic decision‑making and continuous improvement.
Position Information
  • This is a full‑time, at‑will role, offering comprehensive benefits.
  • Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 . to 4:30 ., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • This position is eligible for telecommuting up to 1 day per week with onsite work in San Diego.
Department Summary

The mission of the Information Technology Division is to develop the long‑term infrastructure, services, and strategy necessary to support the University’s mission of learning, discovery, and engagement. The IT Division has the stewardship responsibility for core IT assets on campus and the obligation to provide the services, training, and community building necessary to realize the benefits of those investments across the San Diego State University community.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Web Development, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience supporting web technologies, digital learning environments, accessibility initiatives, or related enterprise technology services.
