This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Towne Centre Drive (San Diego, CA) and remote.
DESCRIPTIONUC San Diego Health is the only academic health system in the San Diego region, providing leading-edge care in patient care, biomedical research, education, and community service. Our facilities include two university hospitals, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center (Moores Cancer Center), Shiley Eye Institute, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, the only Burn Center in the county, and dozens of outpatient clinics.
This position works within the IS Epic Ambulatory Specialties team supporting Epic Beacon and Research applications, with a primary focus on building oncology research clinical protocols in partnership with the Moores Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office. The analyst will work closely with clinical leaders, oncologists, research nurses, and clinical trials staff to translate research protocol requirements into fully functional Epic Beacon builds.
This position operates on a hybrid schedule, combining remote and onsite work, and participates in an after-hours on-call support rotation. The position reports to the IS Epic Ambulatory Specialties Manager and maintains a dotted-line relationship with the Moores Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office Senior Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Lead or contribute to the design, build, testing, and implementation of oncology research clinical protocols within Epic Beacon, including treatment plans, order sets, dosing logic, and clinical workflows aligned to NCI and institutional research standards.
- In collaborating with Moores Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office staff, oncologists, research nurses, and pharmacists, translate protocol requirements into Epic system functionality.
- Perform advanced analysis of oncology research workflows and define IT solutions for improved system integration, protocol adherence, and clinical trial management within Epic.
- Conduct in-depth documentation of system specifications; identify and implement process changes resulting from protocol updates, system upgrades, and new Epic releases.
- Serve as a technical resource to resolve complex build and configuration issues related to Epic Beacon and Epic Research modules.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to standardize routine protocol build processes and support team knowledge transfer.
- Design and deliver training for oncology clinical and research staff on Epic Beacon/Research workflows and protocol-related functionality.
- Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation to provide support for critical system or protocol issues.
- Collaborate with vendors, IT, clinical engineering, and departments as needed to implement new functionality, resolve issues, and support system enhancements.
- Provide status updates to IT and oncology management; estimate and document project actuals and variance using established tools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in a related area plus five (5) years of relevant experience/training.
- Broadly encompassing or highly in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications, including planning, design, development, implementation, user support, training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing.
- Advanced ability to apply problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues; quickly diagnose problems and develop, test, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Advanced interpersonal communication skills to effectively train, support, and work in collaboration with clinical users, research staff, and key stakeholders at all professional and technical levels.
