AWS Architect
Location:
San Diego, CA (Hybrid/Onsite as required)
We are seeking an experienced AWS Architect to lead cloud architecture assessments, optimization initiatives, and strategic modernization efforts across complex AWS environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in AWS infrastructure, cloud cost optimization, scalability, performance tuning, and governance. This role requires a hands-on architect who can evaluate existing cloud landscapes, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide actionable recommendations that drive operational excellence and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive architecture reviews across AWS services including:
Amazon MSK, Amazon ECS, Amazon Cloud Watch, AWS Glue, Amazon S3, Amazon EC2, AWS Lambda, Amazon Connect, AWS Config, AWS Cloud Trail, Elastic Load Balancing (ELB), Amazon SQS, Amazon MQ. - Analyze cloud environments and identify optimization opportunities related to compute right-sizing, AWS Graviton adoption, Spot Instances, Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, storage lifecycle management, S3 Intelligent-Tiering.
- Assess non-production environments to recommend automated shutdown schedules, resource consolidation strategies, shared services optimization, elimination of redundant infrastructure.
- Evaluate emerging AWS technologies and services for potential adoption while balancing performance, scalability, and cost considerations.
- Perform AWS Well-Architected Framework Reviews with emphasis on cost optimization, performance efficiency, operational excellence, reliability, security.
- Develop detailed architecture assessments, optimization roadmaps, and executive-level recommendation reports with measurable business outcomes.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and leadership teams to implement cloud best practices and governance standards.
- 10+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure architecture, or related technical roles.
- Minimum 6+ years of hands-on AWS architecture and implementation experience.
- Strong expertise across AWS compute, storage, networking, data, security, and observability services.
- Deep understanding of AWS pricing and cost management tools, including AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Compute Optimizer, AWS Trusted Advisor, Cost & Usage Reports (CUR).
- Experience with container platforms (ECS, Fargate, EKS), serverless architectures (AWS Lambda), streaming technologies (Amazon MSK, Kinesis), data integration and ETL services (AWS Glue).
- Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation.
- Experience designing highly available, scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and documentation skills.
- Experience leading cloud transformation and optimization initiatives for enterprise-scale environments.
- Knowledge of AWS governance, security best practices, and compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with AWS Marketplace solutions, AWS Outposts, and hybrid cloud architectures.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
- AWS Specialty Certification in one or more of the following: AWS Certified Security – Specialty, AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
