Job Description & How to Apply Below
California Miramar University is hiring a University IT Manager to run campus IT end to end: infrastructure, security, help desk, and academic systems. You'll lead a two-person team and report directly to the Executive Director. Because we are a small and growing university, this role is hands-on as well as strategic: you will personally administer our SIS and LMS, support faculty, staff, and students, and step in on technical work when needed.
Responsibilities- Administer the day-to-day operations of the SIS and LMS, including configuration, access and permissions, integrations, reporting, troubleshooting, and data integrity.
- Complete and stabilize the university's SIS and LMS migration to a new system and then own ongoing administration of the platform.
- Own the help desk function: set priorities and workflows, monitor the queue, and personally step in to resolve tickets and escalations when volume, complexity, or coverage requires it.
- Provide direct technical support to faculty, staff, and students when needed.
- Supervise and mentor a two-person IT team, establishing priorities and clarifying responsibilities.
- Improve help desk and ticket escalation workflows, and develop documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
- Apply cybersecurity best practices and ensure systems support academic, administrative, compliance, and student services operations.
- Coordinate with vendors and partner with faculty, staff, and university leadership.
- Oversee the scaling of IT systems, processes, and infrastructure as the university grows, including account provisioning across six eight-week sessions per year.
- Spearhead AI adoption across the university — serve as the internal expert, develop AI-powered tools such as chatbots, and support faculty and staff in using AI effectively.
- 3-5 years of relevant IT experience within a higher-education environment (college, university, or technical institute).
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional experience.
- Direct, hands-on experience administering both a Student Information System and a Learning Management System (e.g., Anthology/Campus Vue, Populi, Moodle, Canvas, Banner, Ellucian).
- Current, hands-on technical ability, with demonstrated experience performing the work directly rather than solely directing others.
- Experience managing an SIS and/or LMS.
- Experience supervising or mentoring a technical team.
- Ability to work effectively in a small team, contributing directly and taking on hands-on work as needed.
- Direct experience with Anthology, Moodle, and/or Populi.
- Familiarity with higher-education compliance and accreditation, enrollment operations, registrar workflows, student records, and system integrations.
- Practical experience using and applying AI tools in a workplace setting, including prompting and helping others adopt them.
- Experience creating standard operating procedures and improving help desk workflows. Schedule
Full-time, on-site in San Diego, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Occasional evening coverage to support evening classes. Occasional travel to San Jose, CA, approximately 2-3 times per year.
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
$75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
