Position OverviewThe Network Engineer is responsible for designing, configuring, administering, and supporting secure network infrastructure across multiple facilities and remote locations. This hands‑on role supports a diverse, multi‑vendor environment and requires strong troubleshooting skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will help maintain network availability, security, performance, and operational resilience in a compliance‑driven environment.
Key Responsibilities Network Operations & Administration- Manage and maintain a multi‑vendor network environment, including Sonic Wall, Fortinet, Cisco, Ruckus, and Loadbalancer.org technologies.
- Administer and troubleshoot 100+ VPN endpoints to ensure secure, reliable connectivity across remote locations.
- Support customer‑managed networks, including Layer 2 point‑to‑point circuits, routing, switching, and integrated network services.
- Respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and support planned maintenance.
- Monitor network availability and performance, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to maintain service reliability.
- Install, rack, cable, configure, and deploy network equipment, VPN appliances, and related infrastructure.
- Provide on‑site support for air‑gapped networks in compliance with security and operational requirements.
- Participate in an after‑hours on‑call rotation and respond to urgent network or facility needs.
- Support disaster recovery infrastructure through maintenance, testing, validation, and incident response.
- Assist with business continuity and disaster recovery planning to strengthen resilience and recovery readiness.
- Travel to remote facilities and recovery sites as business needs require.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to network security, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Create and maintain network diagrams, configurations, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Partner with technical teams, customers, vendors, and business stakeholders to plan and implement network solutions.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise network environments.
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience with switching, routing, firewalls, and VPN technologies.
- 3+ years of experience with load‑balancing technologies.
- Experience supporting multi‑vendor network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, VPN appliances, and fiber/copper connectivity.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Proven ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation.
- Ability to work independently in both remote and on‑site environments.
- Availability for after‑hours on‑call support and occasional travel.
- Based in or able to commute to the San Diego area.
- Self‑motivated with strong ownership and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in secure, compliance‑driven environments.
- Focused on continuous improvement, reliability, and network security.
