Senior Director, Commercial Supply / Project Lead

SUMMARY:

The Senior Director, Commercial Supply / Project Lead will provide strategic and operational leadership for commercial supply activities across the small molecule and drug–device combination product portfolio. The role requires deep expertise in supply chain readiness and regulatory expectations to support global commercialization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as Commercial Supply Chain Lead, driving end-to-end planning and execution of commercial manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and distribution strategies for small molecule and combination products.
• Develop supply strategy to maximize supply efficiency, minimize waste while identifying risk and risk mitigation plans.
• Develop SOPs and work instructions required to manage supply.
• Govern supply and operations planning (S&OP) process for end-to-end supply chain, including device components.
• Lead supply chain’s PAI readiness and product launch activities.
• Lead launch readiness planning and execution, ensuring supply continuity.
• Responsible for Commercial end-to-end supply chain activities for license to operate.
• Collaborate closely with internal partners (Regulatory, Quality, Commercial, and Supply Chain) and external CMOs/CDMOs.
• Oversee relationships and activities with third parties (packager, carrier).
• Manage supply chain setup for global commercial launch, including demand forecasting, inventory management, and distribution logistics.
• Support lifecycle management activities, including new presentations, line extensions, and post-approval manufacturing changes.
• Ensure compliance with GMP, ICH, and regional regulatory requirements (FDA, EMA, etc.).
• Provide technical and strategic input during regulatory submissions and inspections.
• Identify hiring strategy to build the commercial supply chain team; lead candidate identification, selection and onboarding.
• Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives across commercial manufacturing networks.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• BS/BA in Supply Chain, Science or Economics/Finance with 15 years’ experience.
• Excellent understanding of the Pharma industry & In-Country supply chain needs strongly preferred (orphan drugs experience a plus).
• 10+ years’ supply chain management experience within Pharma or other Lifesciences manufacturing environments.
• Ability to set up mission/vision/strategy for Commercial Supply Chain and translate into key strategic drivers.
• Experienced in implementing and maintaining serialization systems to ensure compliance with current and future regulations.
• Expertise with MRP/ERP system implementation and integration
• Strong understanding of supply chain operations and GMP manufacturing.
• Prior experience supporting global commercialization
• Experience managing external partners (CDMOs/CMOs) and complex global supply networks.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed biotech environment.
• Positions can be based in San Diego, CA (Hybrid) or Remote.
• Up to 20% Domestic and International Travel.

The expected salary range for this position is listed below. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. This position also qualifies for the benefits as listed below. $227,000 - $250,000 USD
