Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are a fast-paced custom design and fabrication studio where no two projects are identical. We tackle a wide range of projects and rely on a tightly coordinated team to bring them to life. We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented professional to keep our shop floor fully supplied and our projects on track.

Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Procurement Specialist to own our end-to-end purchasing and vendor management processes. As a key member of our operations team, you will work closely with Project Managers, Engineering, and Shop Production to source raw materials, specialized hardware, finishes, and sub-contracted services accurately, on time, and within budget.

If you enjoy diving into technical drawings, building vendor relationships, negotiating best pricing, and keeping a fast-paced shop floor fully supplied, we want you on our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Material & Subcontractor Procurement:
Review project Bill of Materials (BOMs) and CAD drawings to identify raw material, hardware, and buyout requirements. Source and procure materials (sheet metal, structural steel, wood/plastics, hardware, electrical/pneumatic components, custom tooling), evaluate competitive vendor bids, and issue accurate Purchase Orders (POs).
  • Schedule & Lead-Time Management:
Track open purchase orders continuously to ensure materials arrive before scheduled shop production dates. Proactively communicate supply chain delays to PMs and Shop Foremen, coordinate logistics, and arrange quick-turn deliveries.
  • Vendor Relations & Cost Optimization:
Build and manage strong relationships with key material suppliers, service providers, and local distributors. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, volume discounts, and freight allowances while continuously evaluating vendor performance.
  • Job Costing & Inventory Control:
Verify incoming vendor invoices against POs and receiving slips to ensure pricing accuracy. Track estimated vs. actual material costs to protect job profit margins, manage inventory levels for high-volume shop consumables, and organize leftover project stock for future use.
Qualifications
  • Experience:

3–5+ years in purchasing, procurement, or project coordination within a custom fabrication, machine shop, architectural millwork, or industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Blueprint & Drawing Literacy:
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, and technical specifications/BOMs.
  • Material Knowledge:
Familiarity with metal grades, hardware, wood/composites, finishing processes, and industrial shop supplies.
  • Software Proficiency:
Hands-on experience with manufacturing ERP/MRP software (e.g., JobBOSS, Genius ERP, E2, Pro Shop, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Negotiation & Math

    Skills:

Proven ability to negotiate pricing/terms and comfortable calculating material yield, weight, dimensions, and unit conversions.
  • Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to negotiate with vendors and collaborate across internal departments (Shop Floor to Management).
Key Performance Metrics
  • On-Time Delivery:
Material availability aligned with shop schedule (zero production downtime due to missing materials).
  • Cost Savings:
Target 3–5% annual reduction in material/freight costs through negotiation and alternative sourcing.
  • Margin Protection:
Low variance between estimated BOM costs and actual PO totals.
  • Data Accuracy: 100% accuracy on PO specs, quantities, and job-cost allocation.
  • Target Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 per year (DOE). Pay is based on several factors including direct industry experience and proficiency with ERP software.
Benefits
  • Paid Time Off
  • paid company holidays
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • company sponsored health insurance plan
