The Role

The Senior Superintendent provides overall direction on projects, develops and maintains strong working relationships with owners and architects, evaluates project performance, site conditions, safety and quality standards, compliance with scope, and manages trade partners. This role ensures constructability reviews, logistics plans and baseline schedules achieve project turnover requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee, manage, and document all day-to-day job site activities including OSHA safety compliance
  • Direct field personnel according to the project plan and Suffolk supervisory principles
  • Communicate issues, events, performance, and progress daily to the Project Manager
  • Report any problems promptly to the Project Manager to facilitate cost-effective solutions
  • Establish effective working relationships with Clients, Suffolk team members, subcontractors, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction. On union projects, maintain relationships with trade union business agents and managers
  • Request advice and assistance from the General Superintendent or Project Executive on materials, sequencing, scheduling, logistics, and personnel
  • Project Start-Up/Turnover Meeting: identify pre-mobilization activities and develop start-up schedule with Project Manager for review
  • Scheduling: assist in formulating construction schedules, establish and maintain the Project Baseline Schedule, update monthly, and provide a six-week look ahead
  • Lead Pull Planning and 6 week make ready plan meetings
  • Safety: ensure subcontractors attend safety pre-construction meetings and carry current safety documentation; review daily for OSHA compliance
  • Quality Management: establish benchmarks, form Q-Team, manage inspections per baseline schedule
  • Subcontractor and Site Management: manage pre-construction, mobilization, documentation, performance, and site utilization
  • Meeting Management: attend and chair turnover, mobilization, coordination, safety, schedule, closeout, owner and subcontractor meetings
  • Administrative Management: complete office checklists, daily reports, file management, and as-built drawing logs
  • Project Closeout: manage subcontractor closeout and punch list
  • Training: participate in training programs and act as SME when needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable discipline and relevant project experience
  • 8 to 12 years of experience in construction fields
  • Applicable area licenses
  • Excellent team development and leadership abilities
  • Strong collaboration with Project Manager and staff
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and tight oversight
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities while maintaining customer relations
  • Business judgment to balance budget and construction processes
  • Problem-solving skills with decisive action
  • Ability to manage and embrace change
