Expert Shipfitter Leader

Join the Department of Navy as an EXPERT SHIP FITTER LEADER and take on exciting responsibilities at various naval shipyards. We are seeking dedicated individuals to fill positions at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.

As an Expert Ship fitter Leader, you will:

• Lay out shell, deck, and bulkhead plates, I-beams, channels, angles, pipe, round bar, structural shapes, gun rings, struts, framing, and foundation structures from blueprints and templates.
• Cut and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal structural shapes using various shop machinery.
• Utilize precision tooling such as micrometers, feeler gauges, and torque wrenches to meet technical specifications.
• Report to supervisors on work status and any delays, addressing questions about work operations.
• Inspect completed and in-progress work for quality, adherence to specifications, and standards.

You must meet the following conditions of employment:

• US Citizenship is required.
• Must be found suitable for federal employment.
• Participation in the direct deposit pay program is mandatory.
• New hires will be required to pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• This position requires a valid US driver's license.
• Successful completion of pre-appointment physical exams may be required.
• Obtain and maintain security clearance prior to employment.
• Wearing personal protective equipment is mandatory during shifts.
• Be able to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb, work in confined spaces, and perform shift work may be required.
