Job Description
Assembly
This occupation includes assembly of electronic components and subassemblies; fabrication and test of RF semi-rigid coaxial cables, installation and hookups in consoles and cabinets, manual and machine circuit checks, complete assembly of major electronic units such as chassis, TRU's, consoles and cabinets.
Electro Mechanical
This occupation includes the fabrication, assembly, installation, rework, and functional check of electrical and mechanical parts, assemblies and electro mechanical assemblies, modifications to production, prototype, developmental and experimental electronic systems.
Encapsulation
This occupation includes the development of procedures for encapsulating, or otherwise packaging electronic assemblies; includes mixing and application of these compounds and the application of identification marking, as required. Performing complete soldering, cleaning, and lead trimming of circuit card assemblies and backplanes.
II. Primary Duties and Responsibilities/Typical Work Performed:
Assembly:
Determine the sequence and perform the operations necessary to assemble complete electronic units working from released or pre-released drawings, written or verbal information and wiring diagrams. May also refer to schematics for reference information. Perform solder, crimp, and wire wrap methods as required by specification. Perform required mechanical assembly operations. Set up and operate semi-automatic and automatic insertion, resistive welding, automatic sleeve stamping, coil winding, overbraid, wire cutting, and wire wrap equipment to assemble electronic components and assemblies.
Assemble chassis assemblies and commercial equipment into electronic racks. Route and connect power and signal cables and perform ring out of wiring installation. Utilizing shop practice and a working knowledge Ohms's Law, test and troubleshoot wiring harness and tie boxes that may contain relays, resistors, and capacitors. Troubleshoot wiring errors and component failures using resistance, inductance, and capacitor meters. With Factory Engineer assistance, translate one dimensional hardline blueprint's into three dimensional hardlines.
Operate mechanical tools to cut, strip, crimp, face, and solder semi-rigid coax.
Use precision measuring tools to take measurements with a high degree of accuracy. Use a protractor and calculator. Use basic knowledge of mathematics. May work with Factory Engineer on hard-line length and shape. Perform simple tests using ohmmeter or some other continuity checking device. Test VSWR and insertion loss on hardlines. Perform rework, repair, and modification of the same level of difficulty as described herein.
Electro Mechanical:
Determine the sequence of operations to assemble, install, rework, and ring out a major unit of an electronic system by use of blueprints, general sketches, and schematic drawings, verbal and written instructions.
Perform precision fitting, assembly, and installation of electro-mechanical parts and subassemblies. Fabricate plastic and metal parts of developmental production prototype electro-mechanical components. Use precision machine operations and/or hand operations to complete the assembly or system.
May work with or without jigs, fixtures, and tooling or improvise temporary tooling and production aids incidental to work described herein. Perform rework to the level of difficulty described herein. Accomplish electro-plating, riveting, dimpling, squeezing, drilling, tapping, and fitting of parts and assemblies, fitting and trimming incidental to and in connection with the work operations described herein. Perform field installation, rework, and repair of completed electronics systems.
Maintain production records as required. Maintain certifications to perform the tasks described herein. May work with engineering and assist higher classified employees as required.
Encapsulation:
Develop procedures required to encapsulate or otherwise package electronic assemblies by interpreting engineering requirements, specifications, formulas, and written and verbal technical instructions and by applying a knowledge of the characteristics of synthetic…
