Marine Painter - San Diego, CA (1st Shift)
As a Marine Painter, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of ships and shipyard buildings. This position involves cleaning, preparing, and painting wood or metal surfaces, ensuring they are free from contaminants such as dirt, grease, rust, and scale. You will also be responsible for masking and taping areas not requiring painting, mixing materials according to product data sheets, inspecting painted areas, and performing touch-up work as necessary.
Responsibilities- Set up tools and equipment at the job site for surface preparation.
- Prepare surfaces to be painted, ensuring they are clean and ready for coating.
- Set up spray paint equipment to apply coatings efficiently.
- Mix paint materials according to the Product Data Sheet and apply coatings to surfaces.
- Hand paint and spray paint in designated areas, inspecting work for touch-ups.
- Perform housekeeping duties in assigned work areas during and after completion of tasks.
- Operate high-reach equipment to prepare surfaces and apply coatings in elevated areas.
- Remove scrap and perform general cleaning and sweeping.
- Assist with other tasks relevant to the trade as assigned.
- Knowledge of surface preparation procedures and proper mixing of paints.
- Proficiency in identifying paint application requirements and necessary equipment.
- Capability to operate high-reach equipment.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to work any shift and move safely around ships.
- Ability to observe differences in color and comprehend written and verbal instructions.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous shipyard experience is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of painting applications.
- Work is primarily on-site at the shipyard, supporting the T‑AO New Construction Program. The environment may involve exposure to fumes, odors, dust, and gases. Personal protective equipment is required, and employees must be able to navigate and work in various shipyard and shipboard locations, sometimes in awkward postures or positions. The role requires frequent lifting and carrying of equipment, as well as frequent climbing, balancing, and manual dexterity tasks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
